Birth Name: Jada Koren Pinkett
Credited as Jada Pinkett

Name after marrying Will Smith: Jada Pinkett Smith
Credited as Jada Pinkett Smith

So how should the name be parsed?
Did her maiden name become her middle name or does she now have a double barrelled last name?

Even IMDB can't decide.  It shows this line in her bio section:

Sometimes Credited As
Jada Pinkett / Jada Pinkett-Smith / Jada Smith / Wicked Wisdom

Actually, IMDb did decide.  They use 'Jada Pinkett Smith' as her common name...the 'Sometimes Credited As' portion is similar to our 'credited as' feature.
No dictator, no invader can hold an imprisoned population by force of arms forever.
There is no greater power in the universe than the need for freedom.
Against this power, governments and tyrants and armies cannot stand.
The Centauri learned this lesson once.
We will teach it to them again.
Though it take a thousand years, we will be free.

Correct. And this poll should really be about what her common name should be. The 'credited as' is one field and this poll has no bearing on that.

Well, the choice seems obvious now...

wait for it...

wait for it...

We should use 'Jada Pinkett' so as to distance ourselves from TSWSNBN.

Hey now...it was just a joke.

That's what I'm doing in my personal db...

There is a 3rd compromise option:

Use Common Name "Jada//Pinkett" and use the As credited field for "Jane Pinkett Smith"

That is what I would do. Therefore I can't vote.

That's what I've done in my personal db for all married names. I use the original name as the master and link it to all of the credits.

That actually is a sensible choice, Unicus. Aftrer all she was Jada Pinkett long before she became Will Smith's wife. And it would achieve the objective you metioned.

It is a very old, and very common tradition in western culture.

If you'd said "US culture" it could have convinced me because I do not know much of US culture. Even though other people claim that this tradition is not even common in the USA. But claiming that this tradition is very common in western culture in general, is very far fetched. I do not know a single European woman who has followed this tradition at present times nor in the past.
