Since we're into the whole genre updating business, could we please have "Classic" removed? I don't see how anyone should be able to judge a movie as a classic. To me, it seems that a movie made before 1980 is sure to get it and especially if it is B/W. Throw it out, it has no use!

Agreed. If we got rid of Foreign then for the sake of consistency if nothing else we should really lose Classic as well.

Yeah, what is really the point with Foreign?
I live in Norway, so that means that i should mark all the movies who isn't made in Norway as Foreign?
I don't reaaly see the point with that.

Maybe can we delete 'Special Interest' too ?

Umm...no.

Special Interest includes wrestling, fighting (UFC/MMA), aerobics and exercise videos, and many other things. Absolutely no reason at all to remove this, unless you're willing to add a category for each individual "Special Interest" title.
"I am Andrew Ryan and I am here to ask you a question:
Is a man not entitled to the sweat of his own brow?

No, says the man in Washington. It belongs to the poor.
No, says the man in the Vatican. It belongs to God.
No, says the man in Moscow. It belongs to everyone.

I rejected those answers. Instead, I chose something
different. I chose the impossible. I chose…
Rapture."

if any thing should be deleted it should be accessories..
so what if you have a demo disc that calibrates your setup,, it ain't a movie..

If Classic is removed as an online genre, I'd still like to have it as a local genre.  I use it and it's handy with a large collection.

Silent would be another useful genre.  Mystery is good.  Opera is one sorely needed.
Wrestling is still sports.  Tag it if you want to break it down further.  Otherwise I want Baseball as a genre too.

We are getting very close to a keywords system like the one on IMDB and further away from genres. I say leave it as it is. Most of the suggestions here are keywords and not genres

How about a SUB-GENRE entry system. A system that is only available for off line use. Customizable and able to sort your database with. This would allow for the community database to be left alone and updated as the community see's fit.

Many people use tags for this, creating a Genres branch for this purpose.  They're customizable, hierarchical, and filterable.

Ken...
I do use tags for this and many other things. They do help in many areas where DVDP doesn't cover in general. I guess I might be missing something with custom genres for off line use not being acceptable within DVDP. It seems like an issue that is up against the wall and has many users cringeing when even mentioned. I use genres for sorting my database so I've always considered genres as an important tool.

Do you think there is any chance you might consider adding something like this (customizable or sub-genres) to DVDP for off-line/private use or is it something you know will never be implimented?

Thanks for the attention Ken...

why? just create a tag Classic, then filter for all movies with genre Classic, press CTRL+A, menu->collection->flagged>edit tags and check the classics tag. And voila, all your Classic genre movies now have a classic tag
