Quote from ex-Slysoft employee James on Slysoft's blog:
Quote:
DVDs: All DVDs should continue work. OPD is only used to speed up things, it is optional.
HD-DVDs: All work.
Blu-Ray AACS: AnyDVD contains data for roughly 130000 discs, these will continue to work. Discs not included in AnyDVD will need the OPD. OPD results will be cached locally, if you copy the cache, you can move it to another PC.
Blu-Ray BD+, 20th Century Fox: Recent discs (1-2 years?) need OPD. Older titles work. OPD results will be cached locally, if you copy the cache, you can move it to another PC.
Blu-Ray Java protection (mostly Lionsgate): Recent discs (1 year?) need OPD. Older titles work. OPD results are not cached.
Blu-ray cinavia: Will continue to work with current players & software.

Really stinks. Only found out when profiling a new title to submit (need it for BD Info) and got the error. Oh well.

Glad to see support here for SlySoft. I was online right when the closure happened and didn't make a thread here figuring most people would give "good riddance they were pirates anyway" type responses.

The only important thing to discuss here is the alternatives to AnyDVD HD. Without that, it will not be possible to add new movies to my "images from movies" site...

I guess there is DVDFab Passkey, but I really don't know of much else that works similarly to the way AnyDVD HD did. And there's no guarantee that won't be shut down at some point too.

There is a free trial for 31 days. For my purpose, not sure if the Lite version will work (I don't copy movies, just use it for screen grabs), so I'm going to try it beyond the trial date. So far, I used it on a new title and it worked just fine.

I tried DVDFab Passkey on the blu-ray of "The Martian", and got a message about a BD+ protection that is "not yet" supported...

Ah ok. Good to know. Strange since it's been out for a bit.

2D or 3D?

Can't understand the commotion. A company that produces programs that circumvent protection of discs allowing the ability to pirate copyrighted products has shut down.

We're not pirating products and there are exemptions to the DCMA that are allow circumvention of the encryption.

people here may be using it and not pirating, but can you say that for everyone that uses it.

I just went through the DCMA I've read the exemptions. It's a pretty broad brush to include what you or anyone here's reason for a need to unlock a decryption program on a disc.

A knife can be used to cut meat during lunch, but also to kill other people... Do you use knives ?

In my case, when I buy a blu-ray, I want to be able to use it on my computer, specially to get images to illustrate my profiles. If you consider this as piracy...

When I buy a disc, I want to copy it onto my storage. I don't tolerate any other usage any more.

I did not download one single film, which was available on DVD, before the AACS (and the DCMA) establshed a copy protection preventing me from storing the content on my storage! Now we are back in those dark ages, where the discs have no value for me...
