How do you use DVD Profiler?
Since you asked,,,,,like this....
(Take 2)
To catalog the movies I own on DVD/Blu-ray discs.
I have 2 collection categories: "Films" and "Short Films" (I use the Academy criteria: any film 40 minutes or less is a "short")
I also have temporary collection categories where films are assigned to before all credits are checked.
Cast, crew, film credits are taken directly off the film print. For 'uncredited' credits I rely on several trustworthy databases (IMDB not being one of them) and my own 50 + years in watching movies.
Once all credits are checked, the film gets transfered to "Films" if a feature or to "Short Films" if a short.
All my discs are Movies (theatrical, made for TV, direct-to-video). I do not own any TV shows.
A film (feature or short) gets only one profile in my database, even if I own multitle editions of the same film (these editions are denoted in notes).
Casablanca (1942): one single profile (I own 3 editions), The Wizard of OZ (1939): one single profile (I own 5 editions), etc.
Fields/features in DVDP that are important to me:
Title
Year produced (year film released)
Run time
Country of origin (of film)
Studios
Aspect ratio (must be in the original ratio)
Language (must be in, or include, the original language film was shot in)
Cast
Crew
Overviw section
Notes section
Covers (I use posters for "front" cover, photos of cast/crew for "rear" cover)
Any fields having to do with the product (disc) do not interest me and I leave most, if not all, blank.
I utilize 5 windows, or screens, or tabs, or whatver they are called.
Screen one: Collection List (diveded in "Films", "Short Films" and several temporay categories
Screen two: General Info and Audio/Video
Screen three: Cast & Crew
(This one for Ship of Fools (1965))
Screen four: Overview & Notes
(This one for Machuca (2004))
(This one for the short A Really Important Person (1947))
Screen five: Covers
The layout I use lets me upload images of any size I want. These images are clikable to full size, filling the width of my screen, for height I use the scroll bar
(This one for the animated short Slap Happy Lion (1947))
(This one for Dracula (1931))
Dracula (1931) poster ("front" cover)
Dracula (1931) cast/crew photos ("rear cover")
