Do you think we should just have one profile per movie as a starting point?

First Mistake by Ken.

...2nd Mistake Ken did was to...

I wish I could have made it this far with only two mistakes.

---------------

I stopped at 2, anymore would be reduntant.

but since you posted.
3rd would be not charging a yearly membership.

4th would be not having advertisments to bring in revenue to bolster profits to hire on more programmers to get updates and fixes out faster.

No.

This is DVD Profiler, not Movie Profiler.

Great, now I can catalog my inventory of blank DVDs!

Don't forget a flag indicating whether formatted or not. We also need a new field to track number of times a R/W erasable has been formatted. I think they have a lifespan.

And don't forget +R vs. -R and Bulk Pack Quantity. What did I forget?

We at least need to add brand and write speed.

If someone has a better idea about the Cast & Crew database aspect, please chime in.

Sure, but it might not be what you want to hear....

1. Don't download any profile from the Invelos database (errors galore)
2. Create your own local database

Living in your alternate reality much? Most of the changes to the software have come by because of user requests. As a result it has made the database more difficult to manage, not less. I know, it's tough when people get what they ask for...

In response to the OP. I don't think it would work because of the variations in versions and the fact that this is DVD Profiler, not Movie Profiler.

I am a huge fan of data. I don't care if it takes me 1 hour or 3 days to reaudit a DVD/Blu-ray, I do this for the fun of it. It is my hobby so 99.9% of the time I do a complete reaudit.

I love it when new features are added or enhanced because it gives me many more years of updating.

Really?  It's been a 1.5 years since the last update.  AFIK Ken has not made any statement regarding further developments, during the last update he made some cryptic mention of some major update looming.  But nothing since.  How anyone supports Ken & Invelos is beyond me.  I don't know Ken, but from all the info I've seen is that he doesn't care about the DVD Profiler community.  The people that actually do the work that makes his program he has no time to engage with.  Where is he in this conversation?  What a complete and utter tool.  F Ken.  I"d quit contributing right away if I didn't know there were others (Mostly in Canada.. ie Merrick and Joe) that do work that I use.  It's a Catch-22 situation.

Again it's utter insanity... It may be called DVD Profiler but it's 99% about movies and TV, get over it.

How often are movies different?  Not very often.  If there is a verifiable difference in a film then it gets it's own entry.  But I think majority of the time most films have the same credits/content.  But thinking about it... discussing it... is a start.

Does anyone buy a DVD of Casablanca because the UPC is 0000000110012 or because it is 0000000110013?

no

Fair enough and I don't know anyone who would but it is obviously a most useful 'key' in the database to show which edition/release it is to hang all the other information off about the content.

Does anyone buy Chinatown because it is in a black keepcase...or because it is in a blue keepcase...or because it is a snapper?

no

I'd prefer a keepcase over a snapper BUT in addition I know plenty who would spend significantly more money if the release was in a steelbook case plus there are quite a few who need to know if a release has a slip case out there (for example on original release only) so they can go to Ebay and buy the slip separately if theirs doesn't have the slip.

It's not like it's giving me an ulcer.  It only gets to me when I visit the forums.  In the grand scheme of things it's not important, I realize it may come across that it is more important than it should be.

I just wish Ken cared half as much as the program and data as the community.  But it's obvious he doesn't.  He created the program to make money... which I have no problem with.  It's a great program and I love using it, but it's hilarious how the community just ignores the fact that he just doesn't care... He obviously doesn't have a passion for it.  I get it, I like my job but it's not something I'm interested in checking in on my off time.  If he doesn't care enough to be involve, than create a committee or a rules czar that is willing to weigh in and make a definitive statement.  Create some sort of process the address the problem of his utter lack of commitment to building a better database.

When was the last time Ken thanked the community for supplying his program with the date that drives it?  Who would buy the program without the data source?  No one.. or very few.  Maybe it's because everyone in the community is used to his apathy.  But I ask the question why?

Ken, why should we continue to contribute to YOUR database?

It is a DVD profiler, not a movie/film or TV series profiler.

If you have more than one film per DVD, you can create a nested/child manual profiles for the extra films.
We don't need stinkin' IMDB's errors, we make our own.
