I can't even comprehend the idea that a miniseries is not a type of series but a TV Movie. The name itself tells you it is a type of series... miniseries. When originally aired... the miniseries is (usually) aired throughout multiple nights/weeks... each episode has it's own opening and end credits (whether they are identical or not). This all screams series to me.

I don't have this particular DVD... but when I looked up the miniseries I see that it originally aired in 3 parts...

TV.Com lists this miniseries as...

Episode 1: Into the Storm
Episode 2: Search for the Emerald
Episode 3: Tin Man

Is this how it is on the DVD? If so it should be credits per episode. If it only says something like say... Part 1... Part 2... and Part 3 which has the credits per part still on the DVD... then I still believe they should be credited per part... even if all 3 are identical.

I believe the only way it should be condensed into 1 set of credits is if the DVD release made it as such 1 set of opening and end credits... with all parts put together to make it like one long movie (and yes I have seen this done).

The credits should match how the miniseries is presented on the DVD/BR disc. Anything else for a disc in my collection... and I would vote no with the given reason.

This isn't a matter of you wanting the follow the rules and me wanting to carve out an exception. It's an ambiguity about which rules apply.

If it's presented on disc in an episodic manner shouldn't it be profiled that way, to reflect what's actually on the DVD/Blu-ray?  This is DVD Profiler and not TV Movie Profiler.

---------------

Plenty of movies are presented in two parts on DVD. We don't create separate entries for discs one and two of the Alexander extended cut, for instance, even though Oliver Stone said he broke it up because he wanted to, not because of disc space.

I haven't seen that one either... does Alexander have opening and ending credits for each part of the extended cut? If it does... then I do believe it should in profiler as well. If it don't then it shouldn't. Every actual movie that I have that is broken up into parts on 2 discs or 2 sides of of a single disc still only has the one set of credits.

I agree.  It is not even close lol.  Sometimes they do that if they want to use the same base transfer for the Blu-ray as well as the DVD and just.  Especially if the base transfer was released on DVD first and they do not want to go through the editing process to merge the two parts together and if it is cheaper to just provide a second blu-ray disc.  This happens mainly with catalog releases since most  studios were making their base digital transfers in HD quality before Blu-ray was the standard and knowing a HD format would eventually come out.  So space may not have been an issue for them deciding on how many discs.  But when they do that they do not repeat the credits since it is meant to be seen together as a single movie.  Just part 1 on one disc and part 2 on another.

I am somewhat confused on this. The op is concerned about undifferentiated cast and crew data in a miniseries that was created by the filmmaker or distributor. Yet in another thread. The same user wants to to take data which is differentiated by the filmmaker or distributor and make it undifferentiated<scratches head>. Is it just me or is there an inconsistency here.
ASSUME NOTHING!!!!!!

Just as a FYI the discs themselves and the disc menus do not put those episode names.  They are just labeled Part 1, Part 2 and Part 3 on the discs and menus.  So when I did the contribution I labeled them as Part 1, Part 2 and Part 3  since the names are supposed to come from the DVD itself or the packagaing as per the rules.  And as you have probably read before each has separate opening end end credits.

I have seen this as well and I absolutely agree with our position on this.  If on the DVD they edit it to be like one long move wiht only one set of credits it should be profiled as such.  It is really all about how the presentation is on the DVD since that is what we are profiling.

Again I agree.
