I, at one time, took no votes on scans very personally. I soon found out, through asking members of my family, which of the scans they thought looked better, holding the actual cover. I found out that each had differing opinions.
too dark
too yellow
both original and contributed.
These images are like digital pictures. For a 4x6 picture, a 5MP camera is more than enough, but would not use that same camera for an 11x13.
For most computer monitors having between a 65 to 130 pixels per inch, looking at side by side comparisons of an image at 100ppi and 300ppi may not have to much discernible difference, as long as both images started from a quality scan.
I do not blow up the images on screen to enormous sizes, just to see how much distortion I can induce into the picture. I take the image on screen for what it is at the native resolution presented. I pull out the dvd case and compare. If I see a difference, I note to myself what the difference is. I then decide if the difference is worse or better and how much so.
I will vote based upon my perceptions and nothing else.
Sometimes I will see a significant improvement, and still see errors. I will vote yes and comment on the problems that I see.
Sometimes I will see not much difference and vote no.
Sometimes I will not have the right release, and unless it is something obvious, will vote neutral.
Sometimes it will be worse, and I will vote no.
If I vote yes or no, take it for what it is worth.
Opinions are like BLEEP, everybody has one and they all stink.
Nothing personal, just observation...
