Often? I've never seen it on a Swedish DVD before. But I've seen it on US/Canadian covers that I've ordered online. Sometimes you'll find both these (with and without) stickers in the database. I'll agree with Kathy here. You are lucky, but it does happen quite a bit in the States in my experience. | | | Reviewer, HorrorTalk.com

I would agree with this. A UPC sticker under the shrinkwrap is a different animal from a UPC sticker on the shrinkwrap. | | | "This movie has warped my fragile little mind." |

| Posted: | | | | Slightly off topic, but related question. Does anyone know why some DVDs have a UPC sticker over the UPC when they are the exactly same number? I've encountered this quite often and has always left me scratching my head. | | | HDTV: 52" Toshiba Regza 52XV545U AVR: Onkyo TR-707 Speakers: Paradigm Monitor 7 v6, CC-190 & Atom Monitors Subwoofer: Definitive Technology ProSub 800 BD/DVD: Oppo BDP-93 (Region Free) HD PVR: Motorola DXC3400 500GB w/ 1TB Expander BD/DVD/Game: 250GB PS3 Slim DVD/Game: 250GB XBox 360 Elite Special Edition (Black) Game: Wii Remote: Logitech Harmony One w/ PS3 Adapter WHS: Acer H341 Windows Home Server |

I would agree with this. A UPC sticker under the shrinkwrap is a different animal from a UPC sticker on the shrinkwrap. I would agree as well. | | | No dictator, no invader can hold an imprisoned population by force of arms forever. There is no greater power in the universe than the need for freedom. In this case, if the printing is an error perhaps the distributor will correct it in subsequent runs. In the mean time, disc ID is the suggested entry method.
But the distributor has corrected it. They are just too cheap to order a re-print. I don't know that I would call them too cheap, Kino, a reprint cover would probably add several thousand dollars to their costs, depending on how many were printed...and they are in it for a profit after all. I don't know the exact numbers, because I don't keep track, but it happens a lot when you get them on sale. Most of my DVDs are US so I can't speak about other countries' DVDs. I have wondered why they do this too; I thought it was just how businesses keep track of inventory. |

| Posted: | | | | Sometimes you are correct, Cathy. In thios case I doubt it. Sometimes businesses do plaster their own UPC over the actual, for whatever reasons tthey have. In this case however and in most I am aware of this IS a UPC that is put on by the distributor, the secret is in the UPC code that is used, the title is not the only thing that uses the UPC, each and every Distributor has it's own part of the code, for example all Paramount Titles in R1 beguin 09736X, the X in their case is something that use to identify which part of their catalog they are dealing with (I haven't figured out exactly how they use it) but 097360, 097361, 097363 and 097368 are Paramount numbers that have turned up over the years.

However, if that conflicts with a different release now or in the future, it will likely be overwritten. Well, I have been through my trash and no sticker on the shrinkwrap (and none inside), looks like they were to cheap to even put stickers on all of them But I now have email from both the distributor and the rights holder that the intended UPC is 7312230505945. The former says there should be a sticker on the cover and the latter saying that I should talk to the retailer for possible return and replacement. So unless someone beats me to it there will be a submission for that UPC with proper notes and quotes. But not tonight... And all the better if someone manages to get a proper back cover from a later rerelease and submits that, but I suspect that wont happen. As Skip said, it is all about the money... /Ulf |

| Posted: | | | | Sorry to revive a really old thread, but it seemed like the best place to ask the question. What if there is a UPC sticker on the outside of the shrinkwrap, that creates a new version (release) of an old disc. For instance, the Universal 100th Anniversary releases on DVD. Most of the actual DVD's are previous releases (but not all) but a digital copy has been added (as well as the Universal 100th Anniversary slipcover), creating a new release (re-release?) of an existing DVD. Here is an example: Scarface: Universal Cinema Classics is already in the database with UPC 025195004473. Universal took existing shrinkwrapped discs, added the digital code pamphlet on the back and re-shrinkwrapped it and applied a new UPC sticker 025192147579 and the 100th Ann. slip. Some people throw away slips ( ) and after removing the two shrinkwraps, you would be left with the version in the database. Doing a search, I saw that the Universal and Paramount 100th slips were discussed, and one user said you would use the UPC on the shrinkwrap, and in the collected contribution notes of Ken, it looks like he would probably agree, but I just wanted to make sure before I made any contributions. A lot of these aren't in the database yet; most of the Blu-ray versions are, but not too many of the DVD versions. |

| Posted: | | | | If you can remove the UPC sticker from the shrinkwrap without it ripping or tearing or smudging, and apply it over the other UPC, I would have no problem with that. I have several store-exclusive titles that have their own UPC's and have done the same thing. | | | My one wish for the DVD Profiler online database: Ban or remove the disc-level profiles of TV season sets. It completely screws up/inflates the CLT. FACT: Imdb is WRONG 70% of the time! Misspelled cast, incomplete cast, wrong cast/crew roles. So for those who want DVD Profiler to be "as perfect as Imdb", good luck with that. Stop adding UNIT crew! They're invalid credits. Stop it! |
