Moderators should only intervene by either PM'ng users with a warning or in rare cases posting to a thread in order to get it back on track. I think we should reflect on the workload of "moderation" and the extent to which it intrudes on community interaction. Screening of posts smacks of "Big Brother". I don't like the idea. I think people can be expected to be good citizens, and after appropriate warnings, reprimands, etc., they should be able to learn and grow - if not, they get kicked out. We've been talking about different types of moderators. The "behavior" type of moderator I think should be akin to lightning. Tremendous power, but only rarely and swiftly applied. Saving that for Ken puts us in the same bottle as now. He doesn't have the time. We prefer him to guide development, right? Look at the list of feature requests. Which one(s) would you forgo in order for Ken to have time to screen user posts? As far as content moderators, such as contributions, I have less to say, cause that's not my bag. I agree with most of what has been said before - impartial, ability to sort thru logical arguments, etc. This person would probably need some kind of tracking / resolution system, and be responsible for managing a consensus against an established list of known issues. When the consensus is reached, it would become the rule. When a consensus is not reached, the item would remain on a list of decsions pending for Ken to take action on, as time permits. That would prevent constantly recyling on the same issues, over and over. | | | Thanks for your support. Free Plugins available here. Advanced plugins available here. Hey, new product!!!
