Yup, really.  It was news to me too    When I read the above posts I thought it was strange that it didn't do it as the mobile version does.  So I filtered only Star Wars titles ran MP and only those titles were suggested.

This is already possible, Movie Pick only suggests titles that are currently filtered in the collection window.

Ah, thanks for that, but just found an even easier way!  I would still like a "Genre" option without having to apply a filter to my collection prior to launching Movie Pick, but if you select a movie from your collection of the genre you feel like watching, you can then right-click and select "Pick More Like This..."

Had no idea that option was there.  But effectively, it acts as a Genre filter!  So using my original example, I find "Enter the Dragon" in my collection list, right-click select "Pick More Like This", and Movie Pick starts off only suggesting Martial Arts flicks!  Stick in my movie length max, and I am all set.

Learn something new every day......

tks,
R.

Also, just got my "Genre" question answered in another post.  Turns out the product already has exactly what I am asking for.  Using Default Invelos High Res (and shifting things around just a bit), leaves the list of Genres easily accessible in the top left corner making it far easier to apply a filter.  Exactly what I was looking for.  Now Movie Pick works even better as it will apply a length filter to my genre filter with only a click or two!

Thanks,
R.

I've never used it either.  But I don't believe that's a good enough reason to remove it from the program.  I'm sure some people out there must use it.  Since it isn't bugging me and doesn't harm anything, I see no reason to take it from them.

Okay lets get someone who is reading this to say they use Movie Pick.., and if so why??

People who use Movie Pick might not be forum denizens.

(I don't use Movie Pick.  )

Then they need to become denizens of the Asylum. We have lots of empty rooms, er cells....ummm suites. Yeah, yeah that's it SUITES. We have lots of them with nobody in them yet. No, James, you can't have two.

I click on Movie Pick and it scans My collection in a second or three and then up pops..
(i.e) Back To he Future.., Why?  well lets see.. It can't be because my last watched slide indicator is set to the extreme left,( least watched) ,, But I have marked and watched BTTF last March,, and I know i have discs I haven't watched at all.

Setting the Last Watched slider all the way to the left means "Don't consider when I last watched it".  Normally, Movie Pick will try to pick something you haven't watched recently, but if you slide that to the left, you're telling it to disregard that info.

So, leave the slider in the middle, or to the right if you prefer.  Alternatively, set a constraint in the top left to absolutely exclude things you've seen recently.

The help file has this info and more in two sections - "Movie Pick Tour" and "Movie Pick Advanced Features."  With images even!

OOOOOOOhhhhh, Movie Pick is omniscient!  During the boxing day sales, I picked up a 50" Samsung 1080p plasma, and rewatching DVDs has been great fun recently.  Tonight I felt like a disaster flick, something to make use of the screen size.  I decided on "The Day After Tomorrow" but just because I had been involved in this Movie Pick discussion, wanted to see how many tries it took Movie Pick to get me to that movie.  It was the first one on the screen when I hit F11!  And I have 519 DVDs, no filters were on, so it was picking "at random"! ..... creepy.

I'm unable to reproduce that.  The omniscient code is in but is disabled.  Unless it's figured out how to ENABLE ITSELF!!!

I've recently found myself using a rather novel way to pick a movie at random.  I change to a layout that displays a hundred or so thumnails, sort my collection randomly, close my eyes, flick the mouse wheel and point to the screen.  Wherever my finger lands, that's what I watch.  Comes in handy when I can't decide
