While this isn't exactly a vote or anything, I really do wish that company suffixes could be in the database. I agree that this can sometimes complicate the data in ways many users don't want it...but without it, the data becomes inaccurate in many ways. In many cases a suffix of "LLC" or "(USA)" can mean a *completely* different company that has little to do with the parent company. This has become more apparent with the added Media Publisher field and IMO becomes an absolute must for database accuracy/usefulness. Just to throw an example out that I know off the top of my head: Geneon Entertainment is a Japanese company that creates all kinds of anime. Geneon Entertainment (USA) only localizes and distributes these titles here in the US. If we drop that locality suffix of "(USA)" we lose that data completely and therefore the data says that this title was created, localized and distributed by the Japanese company Geneon Entertainment. While I understand this community doesn't have a huge number of anime fans, this is a database flaw in my opinion. I can't think of any examples that are non anime related though... Anyway, thought I'd chime in on an interesting subject. This is all just my opinion and I'm still new to this "Asylum", so take what I say however you want. |
