Quote: I mean, we all know what's really going on here. There are certain folks who find value in these uncredited cast entries. I like them too. It's also painfully obvious that, if we were forced to actually justify the stuff, a huge majority of it would have to get dumped. So we come up with a vague enough bar for removing the data that can be put up as a roadblock in all but the most egregious cases, thus ensuring that the neat stuff stays around. We're still no closer to finding out if it's actually correct or not, nor will we ever be. No, that's not what I can see. I see a lot of removing of uncredited cast which has been copied from IMDb. I can't see any road blocking. I'm very pleased to read that these have been your results. My mileage, as the saying goes, has most definitely varied. I've lost count of the number of profiles I have been able to vote on where somebody has built the case for removal and the cranky "no" voters grasp even the tiniest variances from IMDB to justify that the data might be good and therefore should be kept. You'd think these folks were being asked to give up a kidney or something. Once again the assumption is made that if it is undocumented, and/or if it is from IMDb, then it is wrong. You're right, I'd prefer to assume that it was right and that the person who originally entered it, regardless of it's source got that data from somewhere. I really find it difficult to believe that people actually "invented" uncredited cast just to screw up Invelos' database. | | | Hal |

| Posted: | | | | True enough, hal. BUT somebody may well have invented uncredited data to protect their own database, what better place to hide tracking data than in someplace that is hard to verify....hmmmmm.

| Posted: | | | | I appreciate your optimism, Hal. But we've all seen how IMDB can screw up a documented credit list. What gives you faith that their undocumented lists are any better?
I know there is no law that says all the reams of undocumented casts are from IMDB, however how many new documented non-IMDB entries do you see nowadays? I like to be optimistic as well, but annecdotal evidence alone tells me where folks sourced most of that information and the source itself has not proven to be particularly reliable. |

I'm not cranky But I do ask a simple request of anyone who is removing data within a contribution, in this case uncredited... please do a quick search/check to ensure you are not removing good data from the database. It is considerate for other users who may view that particular data as valuable within their collections, and in truth does not take a very long time to verify in most cases through actors websites or similar. RR I think we should be allowed to contribute documentation when it's missing, even if we are not adding or removing data. For instance, in The Birds there is an obvious and well justified "Uncredited" role for Alfred Hitchcock's cameo, but it's not documented in Contribution notes (at least, not in the profile of the copy I own). | | | -- Enry |
