State it correctly, gard, it is not the information YOU want to capture. That may not be true for all, Rho has already demonstrated that the label could lead to a mess of its very own.

I will repeat that "Distributor" is the wrong name for this field.  Make it DVD Label instead, since there are all kinds of distribution arrangements that are not really what people intend to capture.  Examples: The Criterion Collection is distributed by Image Entertainment.  If you put the distributor in the field, The Criterion Collection will no longer be in the database.  Same thing for MGM, which is now distributed by 20th Century Fox.  Distributor is not the information you want to capture here.

Wouldn't this be solved simply by having 3 fields, like we do for studios? So in the example mentioned, both Criterion and Image would be listed?

I agree, I think this is exactly what I have expressed with my "label" post.

Yes, but isn't the situation similar for DVDs?

Why can't anything be easy!

I think it just needs to be the Distributor and that's it.

I agree.

Thanks for reminding of this. In previous discussions I always tried to make sure that this was pointed out in some way. I don't care what those companies are called, but "The Criterion Collection" and the likes is what I want to capture in that field as well.

Based on what I am seeing Gardiibolt is WRONG. While Criterion, as far as I know remains related to Image, Image is NOT listed as the distributor for their films. The Copyright data reports that in every case I could think of in my collection Croiterion is the distributor AND the Copyright holder for THAT release. The closest one could come to, and it would be WRONG, is that in most if not all Criterion title they are licensing the title from someone else, licensing is why Criterion holds the Copyright for THAT release. For example. "The Rock" is licensed from Buena Vista Home Entertainment and Hollywood Pictures
