I am sorry your argument just doesn't make sense to me. WHHERE would the possesive be placed to qualify in your opinion, under the title, to the right or the left of the title, on the back with the title on the front.
Skip <shakes head> It, by definition, does not ever qualify to be in the title, if, in fact, it is above the title. Let's see, I have a chandelier above my dining room table. When does my chandelier become a part of my dining room table? When it is in my dining room table, but never when it is above my dining room table. "Above" means separate and gives locatation as to where it is separate. Just as "besides", "beneath", "under", and other placement prepositions which separate subject and object of the prepositional phrase. "In" or "of" would indicate that the possessive is, in fact, a part of the title. The phrase used by both Capra and Hitchcock is not "my name in the title", but is "my name above the title". Simple English. Your logic is as bad as Rifter's. | | | If it wasn't for bad taste, I wouldn't have no taste at all.

That is a perfect pictorial representation of Capra's name above the title. |

So the title of the film is "FRANK CAPRA'S It's A Wonderful Life® ORIGINAL UNCUT VERSION"? | | | If it wasn't for bad taste, I wouldn't have no taste at all.

| Posted: | | | | Yeah, the few arguing for this are all over the idea of including verbage that preceeds the title, but conveniently dump any text following the title. I guess you see what you want to see. |

| Posted: | | | | I didn't have It's A Wonderful Life, but since this would under the same discussion I included it. For this movie I believe that the title is Mr. Smith Goes To Washington, since Frank Capra is the director/storyteller. The only reason his name is above the title was draw people into the theatres, since they knew that Frank Capra was good, wholesome entertainment. It's nothing but a marketing ploy and not part of the title. Its much like today where you see a movie for example produced by Steven Speilberg say, "Steven Speilberg Presents..." That is my opinion and I'm sticking to it. | | | We're on a mission from God.

| Posted: | | | | I can't believe this was debunked so wonderfully by Telecine on page 1 and we're still going round and round. "Frank Capra's" isn't part of the title and the title doesn't include possessory credits. Cased closed.
If someone wants to make a request for a Possessory Credit field for the next version, I'd be more than happy to support it. But until we get such a field, that's data that simply can't be entered. | | | Get the CSVExport and Database Query plug-ins here. Create fake parent profiles to organize your collection. |

| Posted: | | | | Widescreenforever has withdrawn the original submission and made a new contribution with the Title as: It's a Wonderful Life and the Original Title as: Frank Capra's It's a Wonderful Life. I can live with that as a compromise on the basis that the film is AKA Frank Capra's It's a Wonderful Life.
I would also support a change to the software to incorporate possessory credits. |

That's still wrong. It implies that the filmmaker (Frank Capra) originally included his name in the title (for which there is ample evidence to the contrary) and that the DVD distributor changed it to drop Capra's name from the title. Incorrect on both counts. According to Capra himself, his name was above the title. It was never an "original" part of the title. | | | ...James

| Posted: | | | | I have to agree with James. In real life I compromise constantly to keep people happy. But the database shouldn't be built on compromises. I'm sure some will disagree, but to me this is completely black & white. | | | Get the CSVExport and Database Query plug-ins here. Create fake parent profiles to organize your collection. |

The ® symbol caught my eye. i went to the Patent & Trademark office web site ( http://www.uspto.gov/ - clicked on Trademark on the left) and and did the advanced search for "wonderful life" and got 41 hits with that phrase (including one for an "It's a Wonderful Life Game" - i don't want to know what happens when you lose! ) None of the hits indicated any connection with the words "Frank Capra" or "Capra's" The title the trademark holders felt important was simply "It's A Wonderful Life". They could have included the phrase "Frank Capra's" in the trademark and added a disclaimer stating "Frank Capra's" was not part of the trademark but they elected not to, unlike the people who registered "Capra's Coffee" who disclaimed any rights to the word "Coffee" unless preceded by the word "Capra's". None of the trademark owners have included "Frank Capra's" as part of the registered title when they could have. His name above the title is just marketing. | | | Bad movie? You're soaking in it! |
