Quote: Back to the whole married name thing. Talia Shire has one or two maiden name credits as Talia Coppola. I think this would be a case where married name would be justified as that's how most people would recognize her.
If you've got any approved contributions using Talia Coppola as a "credited as", then I'm sure James would be happy to add it to his list. You're right that she is much more famous as Shire. It stuck out in my mind because we have "Talia Coppola" credited in The Dunwich Horror midnite movie. No big deal and I'm sure I'll eventually get around to fixing it once I finally pick it up. |

editted by Gerri Let's take a simple case James Jim Jimmy JR J. R. J. All the above are for the SAME actor in various appearances. BEFORE we can apply ANY guidelines regarding formatting of the above, we have to decide which one is going to be used and what the basis for that choice is to be. Or do we use the dartboard. I am sorry I don't want to use Surfeur's dartboard, I want to use one dartboard and we all play with it. So where does the answer come from. | | | ASSUME NOTHING!!!!!! CBE, MBE, MoA and proud of it. Skip Don't do that. When you do things like this you just come off as arrogant and superior. Comments like this are why people tend to attack you and dismiss your opinion. | | | No dictator, no invader can hold an imprisoned population by force of arms forever. They are legitimate questions. If we people can't deal wiith them that is not my problem. I don't want o confuse people too much so I am bringing up ONE at a time, especially since they seem to be having such a hjard time providing an answer for ONE.

Skip It isn't the questions that are the problem...which is why I didn't comment on them. The way you phrased that statement is the problem. When you say things like that, your points...valid or not...are simply ignored. | | | No dictator, no invader can hold an imprisoned population by force of arms forever. | Posted: | | | | BTW, Erik, I am NOT trying to muck the waters, i see problems, its my job and i want them cleared up before the waters get really muddied. All you are doing, Erik and othesr is reinforcing my opinion that this is nothing more than a free-for-all, that there is NO ANSWER that WE can produce. You are so desperate to go for the "Gold in them thar hills" that you can't or don't want to see the yawning chasm waiting to trap all of us. Skip | | | ASSUME NOTHING!!!!!! | Posted: | | | | But I wiil give you part 2 of my question to chew on
Let's say whatever the answer for Question #1 is we produce the following
James (Jim) James (Jimmy) James (JR), etc.
Now later down the road, we have someone who finds a new movie that has this actor credited and he doesn't realize that James is the choice, or he is Surfeur and thinks the Profiler way is stupid. And he chooses
Jim (Jimmy) and it gets voted positively and accepted
Guess what the end result of this is. We STILL have a broken alias list. because we now have new Priority (Common) whatever you want to call it, for the SAME actor with no link to the other listings that are using James.

| Posted: | | | | I will leave you guys to mull this over. Notice that while I am being called names and insulted...ask yourself why? Have I offered a solution, no...do I have one...maybe, but I am deliberately not talking about it for, I think obvious reasons. You guys are insulting me and calling me names because I am doing nothing more than pointing out problems that I see. I don't consider myself any more intelligent than the rest of you, but sometimes you give me cause to wonder, when instead of discussing a problem we resort to insults and attacks. I am a little surprise at my friend Unicus, for failing to understand this but...com ci, com ca. I am very disappointed in everybody at the moment. Skip | | | ASSUME NOTHING!!!!!! Of course, you are true when you say that about common names, even if you wrote I was wrong to write almost the same thing about spelling mistakes... BTW, surfeur in reference to this , this particular topic involves a totally subjective user selected choice. Your repoeated comments about spelling errors in Overviews or wherever are not user issues, they are statements of FACT. The data appears THIS way on the cover. Yoiu want to be able to "fix" spelling errors, and somebody else decides he wants to fix what he views as grammatical errors, which BTW are far more common than spelling errors, and pretty soon we have data that does NOT look anything at all like the data on the case. Get over it and get a ho;ld of yourself. I have tried to explain this to you in every way I can think of. It all bolis down to YOUR view of what it should be and what YOU believe is accurate, instead of the way Profiler is set for Onlie and if it flies in the face of what YOU believe is accurate then it is stupid. It is simply two different points of view, you want to be allowed to apply YOUR interpretation and the Rules do not and will not allow for that. YOUR interpretation and MINE belongs only in one place, our respective local databases. So get over it. Skip | | | ASSUME NOTHING!!!!!! CBE, MBE, MoA and proud of it. Outta here

Skip I really shouldn't bother waisting my time pointing to the 'common' name database here that we are working on as a reference for all to use. | | | Stuart |
