I've been with the company for 10 years and this will be my first "disciplinary action" so, I'm hoping it will just be a verbal or written warning. In an ordering app for AT&T Wireless (when they still existed as such), I added debug code to quickly fill out test orders with a click of a button. Helped us developers get through the order process quickly so we could test our code fixes on whatever page. Programmers being programmers, I used stuff like auto-filling the User Name field with "Fat Bastard". Well, one of our devs used it to test a problem on the production server and submitted an order. The order went to an Order Rep who became offended. Said Rep complained. Said complaint went up the chain. It reached all the way to THE BOSS before coming down the chain and to me. My manager, trying very hard not to smile, ordered me to put "more appropriate" test data in and not to do it again. |

Anyway the answer is that, new profiles /updates are no longer being submitted to the old database, so you won't get cover scans for profiles that didn't have them at the time the database was closed.
If they are existing profiles with existing cover scans it's a bug as I can download them with no problem.
If you have Win 2000 or above as an operating system you should really upgrade to version 3 of Profiler (download link at the top of the page). If you have a current premium reg with the old version you can get the fully working version of 3 at no extra cost. (See the technical forum pinned thread on how to upgrade before doing anything).
If you don't have a premium reg you will find the program restricted if you own more than 50 dvds. And, if you do NOT have Win 2000 or better, you are left out in the cold. No way to update your images, no way to update profiles, no way to update any of the essential tables. You can still upload to the myprofile area to save your collection online, but I wonder how much longer this will last. I have an older computer running win98se. For my purposes, it works fine and what I need and want. This change to DVDPro is very irritating, and is making me consider switching to a different cataloguing program that will still work under W98se. |

Without wishing to sound unhelpful that is the nature of the beast with PCs unfortunately. You also have to remember that Profiler has never been sold as a video rental tracking tool (you seem to be implying this). It is sold as a tool for individuals to keep track of their personal collection. There was flack flying for the 'error' running 2.4/2.5 on Vista, so does Ken spend his time trying to create a program that can run on many different OS' or does he target a limited number and spend time adding features that are going to make people want to buy? How about a 200MhZ with 256 megs of ram, and a crappy video card. And I've been running XP for years on it. |
