If so then I will resubmit my contributions and I hope some of you 'no' voters help me out and make some of these changes as well. It's easy to hit that 'no' button and God how some of you love to use it. Personally I enjoy using the 'yes' button much more than the 'no' button |

I want something that cross-links and this was the easiest way to do it. You're way isn't getting us anything cross-linked at the moment. Nobody said it 'must be' but, when we are talking about variations of an actor's real name, it just makes sense. It is hard to argue with an actor's official website. | | | No dictator, no invader can hold an imprisoned population by force of arms forever. Check out this trailer for 'For a Few Dollars More', it says it right in the first 5 seconds. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oCTfDydG7SE I thnk this trailer is on one of the dvd's as well...most likely 'For a Few Dollars More'. Add also...IMDB, Wikipeadia, the official site which shows him in the movie but no credit for Gian Maria Volonte and the fact he's in both of the first 2 parts of the 'Dollars' trilogy but the credit for Johnny Wels only appears in the first. I think it's pretty obvious. | | | Last edited: by Bodi |

| Posted: | | | | Quoting Bodi: Quote: Who said the real name must be common name? No one. But I thought it didn't make sense to have the common name be simply a misspelling of the real name. That's why I started the thread to get some opinions. And - we have yet to see any proof that the spelling in most of the film credit is actually Volonté. If you see Volonté in several Profiler entries you should check to make sure they actually match the movie credits. It's easy for people who are not accustomed to accents to enter an acute accent instead of a grave accent by mistake and not notice the difference. | | | My freeware tools for DVD Profiler users. | Posted: | | | | I've checked in the "For A Few Dollars More" credits and the grave accent is there, it's just really, really easy to miss as it's beside the letter, not above it. |

| Posted: | | | | Quoting GSyren: Quote: In a recent contribution someone changed Gian Maria Volontè to Gian Maria Volonté because "Most of the entries I have seen for him in the database are done this way".
I always become suspicious when someone makes a change only to make an entry conform to something else, so I did some research and found the official Gian Maria Volontè web page (www.gianmariavolonte.it) which shows that his name should be spelled Volontè.
The bizarr thing is that someone else later voted Yes with the comment "é is consistent with how it is pronounced in the extras (i.e. as Volontay)". I find it unbelievable that anyone would insist that a persons name should be misspelled in order to conform with how someone pronounced the name in a documentary. Furthermore, even though I don't speak Italian, I doubt that Volontay is how his name is actually pronounced in Italian.
In my opinion, the spelling of the common name should be taken from an authoritative source if one exists, even if the majority of the entries in the database happen to spell that name with a different accent.
So if the majority of Volontè's credits read Volonté (and that is how he is actually credited in the film), they should - in my opinion - be changed to Gian Maria Volontè [credited as Gian Maria Volonté].
Opinions? I agree with you totally. Unfortunately, Ken's plans to use the "most common occurrence in the Invelos main database" as the "Common Name", will not necessarily yield the same result! | | | Hal |
