For myself:
I prefer to see only the title with no menus/disclaimers/trailers/etc.

I have a large chunk of my DVD's ripped but I extracted the main title in a lossless format and then converted it to DivX using my "ten-clicks" method (click the video bit rate UP 10 times from the default value).  Comes out to around a GB per hour of video at high quality.

The time to process is high (i7 Quad-core CPU helps here) but since I can batch extract and batch convert, most of the work is click-n-forget until it's done.  Not all DVD's will convert, however, those I store in ISO format.  I've got 287 hours and 16 minutes in 283 GB (164 DVD's).

Only dabbled in Blu-Ray extraction, couple of movies converted to WMV format.

I use Boxee as my media player.

i7 Quad-Core Extreme: $999
4TB NAS: $400
Boxee: free

The reason I went with ISO rip is that I wanted the full DVD experience without relying on the physical disc.  I have to admit, I'll probably never want to watch a movie in French (unless that's how it was originally filmed!), but if I want to watch something with Director's Commentary, or special features, that was part of my goal.  I use Windows Media Center Extenders for watching all my TV, and I could have ripped the movies only to a lossless WMV format, but I wanted the DVD experience.

For Better or for Worse
