I understand, i could add some substantial lists to public domain I would love to see returned to a major studio and have them work their magic<sighs>. Life with Father springs immediately to mind, good I think I hate Madacy more than I do GoodTimes.

No, the laws of your country defines copyright within the jurisdiction of your country, just like US laws define copyright in the American jurisdiction. A country is not overriding the copyright laws of another country, they are defining it for separate jurisdictions.

But if you mean the laws of your country overrides whatever is written in license agreements etc, then you are obviously right - that goes for ANY agreement.

Exactly, the laws of my country overrides this. You just said it differently.

OK it probably was what you intended - but as copyright (or whatever term your law applies) is defined by your countries law, it basically makes your sentence come out as

"Since the laws of my country overrides the copyright" + "Copyright is defined by the laws of your country" -> "Since the laws of my country overrides the laws of my country"

But yes, I am a computer programmer, we spend far too much time looking for things like this in code, so by accident we start looking for it in forum posts as well

I always love getting a good legal education from those who are not capable or qualified to provide the education.

Legal issues aside, this is not too bad of an idea as the media changes of blu-ray and hd-dvd have caused the program to no longer limits specifically to dvd's.

I for one have a large collection of DivX movies that I have obtained from completely legal sources.  For example, Amazon now sells movies that I can download to my TiVo.  I also have a Windows Media Center Edition machine in my basement.  For those of you who do not know, out of the box, MCE the first time you click on Movies, they offer you several places you can download movies from -- all of them legit companies (or I doubt M$ would list them in their OOB (out of box) experience).

Anyway, my 2 cents worth.  Of course it really means nothing as the original poster stated he wants it for "less than legit" purposes.

I am so sorry we "normal people" actually dares to use the forum to discuss something, obviously only professors should post concerning their respective fields of expertise. You know, the kind of people knowing that the while Windows Media Center Edition contains a number of codecs "out of the box", DivX is not one of them. But then, it could get rather empty in here!

LOL good one.
Not quite right. Some of these claim that the copyright stand over the law.

People claim a lot of things, but that does not make it true. Copyright is defined by law, and can obviously not stand over the law that defines it.

Adding other media types than DVD, HD DVD, and Blu-ray to profiler has nothing at all to do with copyright or breaking it and helping piracy. At least I would suggest to add "Other" as a possible media type which could of course only be used in your local database. This way everybody could use this media type for his own private purposes which could be collecting DivX, laserdiscs, VHS, beer, you name it. At the moment is not possible at all to deselect all media types. DVD will be reselected automatically. This is not very useful for people who profile other stuff than DVDs in their local database.

Use Tags, Rho. This IS DVDProfiler. This has been requested for nearly 8 years and not done, therefore i think the answer is a resounding No.

That is ONLY for HD and BD, Rho, which are at the very least cousins to DVD. VHS and other media types are NOT related to DVD, therefore I say again, use the tags for any such tracking. They are sortable and hierarchial

DVD Profiler 2.x had no media type field, not even for DVD.
How do you sort by tags?

Uh, DivX is a codec, not a media type.

Tracking codecs would mean selecting mpeg, mpeg2, avi, divx, wmv, qt, vc-1 etc. ad nauseum... NOT physical media types such as DVD, HD DVD or Blu-ray Disc.

Yes, the correct media type would be "hard disk". But I guess for most users a type "other" would do. Or at least the possibility to deselect all media types.
