| Posted: | | | | But it's not an Amazon exclusive, thus November 30th Seriously, still looking for a valid reason why the October date should stick. Doesn't matter if "a lot" of people received it, it would appear Amazon shipped them out not knowing the date was changed (or got the memo too late). And FWIW, you can no longer purchase it on Amazon, only "pre-order". Were there other retailers that shipped them out or a brick and mortar store that got them in? | | | Last edited: by The Movieman |

What source(s) do The Rules say to use for release dates? --------------- Sources for contributions "must" include a source per Ken. Here is his quote: Quoting Ken Cole: Quote: Contributions, especially those adding cast and crew, must include the source of the data in the contribution notes. We will be taking a harder line on this requirement going forward, so please include the source when you contribute. and the link to his quote can be found here: http://www.invelos.com/Forums.aspx?task=viewtopic&topicID=169361&PageNum=1&messageID=286931 | | | Last edited: by Kathy |

--------------- Actually no it would not. There is no proof that a particular movie was delivered in that box one received at that particular time. Not every single thing can be written into the rules. And, it seems to me that Ken's statements should bear more weight than anyone else in the community. It seems to me that your rational is not enough to prove your argument. So, based on the rules, Ken's statements and how the database has consistently handled Release Date data, I will continue to handle this data based on the official Release Date. If anyone tries to contribute data changes to the Release Date changes based on your rationale, I will vote "no" and link my vote to this thread. As far as I'm concerned this is a non-issue. So, I'm done here. | | | Last edited: by Kathy |

I don't mean to hijack a thread, but this example is still relevant and important. What qualifies as evidence to change the release date? A contribution has been submitted to change the release date for MVD's Windtalkers SE Blu-ray release from 6 Nov 2018 to 13 Nov 2018. However, plenty of people, including myself have already received the release by 6 Nov 2018 and MVD (the releasing media company) and other retailers still show the release date as 6 Nov 2018. The only retailer that I can find that shows a modified release date of 13 Nov 2018 is Amazon... why do they get to dictate the release date? |

| Posted: | | | | That was me, and I spoke with my contact at MVD who confirmed it as 11/6 (so I removed the contribution). As for what qualifies, I did provide sources for the 2001: ASO with a few outside sites as well as the press release provided by Warner Brothers. | | | Last edited: by The Movieman |

I'd say that if the publisher is selling and shipping their product two weeks before the "release date" that their Official Release Date is not accurate and should not be used as the original release date in the online database. ( Example) A disc in the hand is worth two press releases. --------------- |

| Posted: | | | | Personally, even though I already received the item, I would go with the published release date.
If we were to use amazon shipping as the source, then I would have to submit that the release date was Oct 28. That is when I received it and that is what Amazon tracking says. I would also need to go back and alter many profiles, for I have received a number of films a day or two earlier than the published date (shipping variances).
My vote, WB published date (even over Amazon or Bluray.com (or any other information site) |

| Posted: | | | | The "Release Date" is the distributor's best guess as to when the disc will be available for sale. Used for ordering stock, advertising, engendering public interest etc. If it were "Released Date" that would be the actual date it was legitimately available according to their rules. By the way, a Blockbuster would occasionally make a title available the evening before the advertised date. And several weeks ago in a local library I noticed a title available the day before the Release date. I don't know when it first appeared on the shelf. |

I don't know why Amazon would change the listed release date when MVD hadn't changed the date, but I found it definitely odd. The release date had even been changed over at Blu-ray.com for some reason. I wonder it had something to do with the manufacturing delays. |
