As I said before, it is more important to get a common name, than if it the most accurate ever. Therefore I try to keep it as simple as possible, which means, everything currently in the CLT is valid, everything else is nice to have, but cannot be counted until it actually is in the CLT. Waiting for people who did not gather any credits at all, is like waiting for Godot. ... I'm really working hard for common names, but I won't contribute profiles, which I don't own at all, for common name threads either... | | | Complete list of Common Names • A good point for starting with Headshots (and v11.1) |

| Posted: | | | | We're told to look at the CLT results when determining a common name to submit that info in a profile. The rules don't say anything about determining a common name through a common name thread. The most accurate way possible to determine a common name through a common name thread is to determine the credit from ALL profiles currently contained within the system.
The titles I listed all have partial cast/crew entered (I believe, it's been a couple of days since I looked them up), we shouldn't discount them just because the original contributor didn't submit all the cast/crew for whatever reason they may not have (may not care, may not have had time etc.)
I totally get it if a profile is not even in the system, that's a different story. But if we determine a common name and discount 10 titles in the system because they don't have full cast & crew entered, the common name could actually be different than the one determined. If 5 of those profiles get full cast & crew entered in two weeks, and the common name shifts because of profiles ALREADY in the system, and someone has gone through and changed 50 profiles, that's a heck of a lot of work that needs to be redone simply because we ignored profiles already in the system.
If we had to determine a common name for Steven Spielberg, and there were 15 profiles of E.T. in the system, just with no crew filled out, would we discount that profile? Doesn't make any sense to me. | | | The night is calling. And it whispers to me soflty come and play. |

From my point of view there is no significant difference in between these two cases. On a second thought I'd even asume the odds for completely missing (new) titles/profiles to sneak into the data base are better than the probability an orphaned old profile gets filled with cast and crew data.. Quote: If we had to determine a common name for Steven Spielberg, and there were 15 profiles of E.T. in the system, just with no crew filled out, would we discount that profile? Doesn't make any sense to me. This is comparing apples and oranges. E.T. is a widely owned feature with nearly 200 Profiles in the data base. The more users own a title, the earlier (and more accurate) cast and crew gets filled in. The titles not showing up in the CLT are for features which a) are very rare and b) for which the users currently owning did not contribute the cast/crew. It seems to be very unlikely that these users wake up next week and contribute cast and crew for these features... | | | Complete list of Common Names • A good point for starting with Headshots (and v11.1) |

It seems to be very unlikely that these users wake up next week and contribute cast and crew for these features... No, it's really not. It's apples to apples. We're talking about profiles IN THE SYSTEM, just with no cast and crew filled out (or partial cast and crew filled out). If E.T. was in the system, with no cast or crew filled out, would we discount it? Answer: Absolutely not. Very straight forward comparison. This whole discussion is based on a lot of "ifs". If the cast and crew never get filled out... if it was an abandoned profile... if no one owns it... if the title is very rare... I have a solid certainty. The profile IS in the system. Absolutely 100% no ifs ands or buts about it. It's there. It should be counted. We're not talking about the CLT right now and the contribution rules in determining how to submit a common name. We're talking about common name threads, which are 100% separate from the rules, just a way to help those who want to contribute. Why would we limit ourselves and possibly enter in a ton of incorrect info when it's so so easy to make sure we get all the correct info beforehand? | | | The night is calling. And it whispers to me soflty come and play. |

| Posted: | | | | Quoting Merrik: Quote: Why would we limit ourselves and possibly enter in a ton of incorrect info when it's so so easy to make sure we get all the correct info beforehand? Because it could be wise to set limits to stay within managable borders. If (yes, another one) a profile is important enough to you, to fill in the cast and/or crew, you are welcome - as everybody else. If you have information, which is new to a thread, to a person, etc. you are welcome to share it - and I'm really interested in it and will track such information: profiles with lacking cast/crew, upcoming releases, information on the name, ... BUT: I won't count credits for profiles, which are not in the CLT, for common name threads.Common name threads are not 100% seperate from the rules. They are a method to point out counting failures of the CLT system, which is used to set up a rule. Therefore they have to follow the same basics as the CLT: Names, which are entered to a title/profile are counted. Otherwise they get as useless as any other source: IMDB, Homepages, Twitter accounts, etc. | | | Complete list of Common Names • A good point for starting with Headshots (and v11.1) | | | Last edited: by AiAustria |

| Posted: | | | | Common name threads are to verify the persons name in their body of work in the database.
If there is a film that has an incorrect name in the profile for DoP, it is verified that this is wrong and this is what it should be. That profile may never be updated to reflect the correct name but it is still verified what should be in the DoP slot.
It's no different if the DoP slot is blank in a profile if a name is verified to belong in that slot and the profile never gets update, it has still been verified what should be in the DoP slot.
whether the profile has a correct, incorrect or blank spot for DoP shouldn't make a difference in the confirmed credits in a common name search.
If I wasn't on a self imposed contribution ban (1 month so far) I would contribute the films from my previous post. | | | Last edited: by ateo357 |

| Posted: | | | | Quoting AiAustria: Quote: BUT: I won't count credits for profiles, which are not in the CLT, for common name threads. Well, and I say this with no ill will intended, your loss. First, common name threads are separate from the rules. The rules are for contribution purposes. They can benefit from the use of common name threads, but common name threads are not mentioned anywhere in the rules. They're to supplement the rules. If the CLT count is off, and a common name thread can give a correct account of a common name, we can use that. Why would we not use ALL THE INFO available to us in a common name thread. It makes ZERO sense. Second (this is still intended with no ill will), I hope you're prepared to do an awful lot of extra work. If we have 5 profiles in the system that don't have cast and crew filled out, and we DON'T use those films to determine a common name, and the common name ends up being different in the end because of those films, and you've already submitted a bunch of corrections, have fun with doing that work over again. I personally don't see the point and won't submit info from a common name thread until we've reached an ultimate conclusion to it (and with a situation like this, where the person is no longer making films, an ultimate conclusion is easily reachable). Third, any common name thread I start that you want to call conclusive because all films in the CLT are accounted for, but there may be films that have missing crew which would make the thread inconclusive, I will state so repeatedly in the common name thread and vote no to any contribution that tries to use the common name thread as conclusive evidence that a common name has been reached. I'm not trying to be a douche bag, promise. Your train of thought just makes absolutely ZERO sense to me. If a film is in the system, it should absolutely 100% be counted, even if it's missing cast and crew. As ateo357 said, it's no different than an incorrect name in a profile. We determine the correct name for that profile and count it. A blank space is nothing more than an incorrect field, and the correct info should be counted. | | | The night is calling. And it whispers to me soflty come and play. |
