| Posted: | | | | I used them in the beginning when I didn't have a Blu-ray drive. You could download the digital copy and do an audit from it.
This is good until you change computers or enough devices in your computer or update media player then they are no longer valid. At this point the time limit has run out and this further makes them moot. | | | Marty - Registered July 10, 2004, User since 2002. |

Another example of yet another ambiguous rule that could easily be clarified, but isn't. | | | HDTV: 52" Toshiba Regza 52XV545U AVR: Onkyo TR-707 Speakers: Paradigm Monitor 7 v6, CC-190 & Atom Monitors Subwoofer: Definitive Technology ProSub 800 BD/DVD: Oppo BDP-93 (Region Free) HD PVR: Motorola DXC3400 500GB w/ 1TB Expander BD/DVD/Game: 250GB PS3 Slim DVD/Game: 250GB XBox 360 Elite Special Edition (Black) Game: Wii Remote: Logitech Harmony One w/ PS3 Adapter WHS: Acer H341 Windows Home Server |

I don't see digital copy discs listed here. If I am missing something, please let me know, and I would be happy to withdraw.
What to Contribute
Contribute only the following items to the main database:
"DVD Video, HD-DVD Video, and Blu-ray Video" discs (including MiniDVD): These discs contain movies, television shows, music performances and other professionally-produced and sold DVDs. No CDs, DVD-Audio discs, video games, Video CDs, or VHS titles will be accepted. “DVD Video”: These discs, included as bonus discs with CDs or video games are accepted, but only contribute the DVD Video information. Dual-Disc DVDs (which store both “DVD Video” and “DVD Audio” information): These can be contributed, but include “DVD Video” information only. You are misreading this rule. This rule has to do with what kind of profiles to contribute. In other words, only contribute profiles for those items. This has nothing to do with whether or not they should be included as a disc ID entry in the actual profile. | | | No dictator, no invader can hold an imprisoned population by force of arms forever. I think this describes where we are to list "Digital Copies" Indeed, and I will admit that I had forgotten about this, but it does tell us that they are to be added using the check box. | | | No dictator, no invader can hold an imprisoned population by force of arms forever. That's how I was reading the rules too... i.e. no creation of new top or child profiles based on these types of media. But it doesn't (seem to) preclude documenting these discs within a valid profile. Unfortunately the current rules cover nothing regarding what isn't permitted in the discID fields, except for no IDs in movie box set parent profiles. IMO having all the discs contained being listed is useful, even if not readable for ID by Profiler, as documentation of what's in the package. |

Though the rules don't say that is the only place to put it. Look at commentary, it is put in both features and audio. There is nothing saying it should only go in features and nothing saying it shouldn't go in the disc info field. | | | Pete |

I don't see any benefit to the database to include data that can be found elsewhere.
Hopefully Ken will weigh in since this issue is not clear and the community is divided.
If not than, like so many other debatable issues, the voters and the screeners will need to decide. |

I don't see any benefit to the database to include data that can be found elsewhere. That shouldn't be added in Disc IDs, since the disc cannot be read and added by by a drive. | | | Corey |

| Posted: | | | | While I agree, if the disc ID cannot be read by Profiler, then it shouldn't be listed.
We listed them for many many profiles, while they were being distributed..
I think if we are going to change the way they are contributed, I think there ought to be something added to the rules to specify exactly what is allowed.
Do we ban all DC exclusive discs. Do we only ban the ones where profiler cannot read the ID.
My 2.5 cents...

I think this describes where we are to list "Digital Copies" True, that is an option under the disc features section but there are also a lot of other feature check boxes under the features section yet we still contribute the Disc ID(s) for the bonus feature disc(s). | Posted: | | | | I've already found a great fix for it, just put "disc DC" in the notes locally and it doesn't matter if there's an ID for the DC disc. I don't use them myself, but keep track of them to sell em on other sites. Another fun fact. Before finding out about jump drives and faking computers into thinking the discs were there, I tried to sell disc based copies by offering dubbing the dvd/dc discs that my computer does read. It works great except it doesn't acknowledge the DC info at all, so even with full disc copy I got a dvd only! Maybe sharing that info will save someone else a new coaster. I'm good either way this gets ruled on, but tend to lean towards if the drive can't read it, don't include it. |

I don't see any benefit to the database to include data that can be found elsewhere. But surely even "Digital Copy [] SL" *does* add a benefit; it shows that the digital copy is on a disc (and thus permanently owned) and NOT a downloadable digital copy (which will be time limited and useless if you are buying the title sometime after release). AIUI there is no other way to tell the two apart so it does strike me as pretty important (unless a Rule is introduced that says the distinction should be made/clarrified another way, such as in 'Other Features'). | | | It is dangerous to be right in matters where established men are wrong |

You make an excellent point and makes me think this data should in fact be included. |

Actually even the copies on disc need to be activated with DRM and are no longer valid after a specific amount of time. So the disc becomes useless after that time. Also once activated ever being able to move it to a new PC or a different one is usually impossible. Tom |
