Especially trying to pick a movie to go see. We see some together and some alone, due to taste differences. And to watch at home, forget it. Separate Netflix subscriptions, and separate HD viewing stations (smart TVs, 2 HTPCs and audio systems). I don't mind because it gives me an excuse to buy and install more toys! It had to be released somewhere within the United States in that year, whether limited edition or otherwise. Actually, this isn't quite right. According to the Academy rules, to be eligible, the film must be... for paid admission in a commercial motion picture theater in Los Angeles County, for a qualifying run of at least seven consecutive days, advertised and exploited during their Los Angeles County qualifying run in a manner customary to industry practice, andwithin the Awards year deadlines specified in Rule Three. (January 1, 2014, and midnight of December 31, 2014 for the current awards)It is quite common for a studio to show a film for 1 week in December just to meet the deadline. As to the OP, I still watch them but rarely agree with the results. | | | No dictator, no invader can hold an imprisoned population by force of arms forever. There is no greater power in the universe than the need for freedom. Against this power, governments and tyrants and armies cannot stand. The Centauri learned this lesson once. | Posted: | | | | I don't care for the Oscars for two reasons.
a) I've don't watch that many movies anymore. My world are TV series.
b) When I watch a movie, it's often not with any complex or "award-worthy topic" but a simple entertainment movie. I have the feeling that more often than not some drama with a heavy-handed issue is nominated and wins. For example, when I read the synopsis for Grand Budapest Hotel I know that this is the kind of movie I'd never watch. | | | Karsten DVD Collectors Online
