| Posted: | | | | The way I always done it... looks like an honorific I apply the honorific rule. The problem here whether or not Uncle, Mr., Mrs. etc... are honorifics or not. I personally always been taught yes. But it is Invelos' database so happy to go with whatever they want. Until then everyone can only go with what they believe to be right per the rules. And once again hurting linking and no consistency. | | | Pete |

| Posted: | | | | yes Kathy I believe others can and will see it that way.... which is why I said... "Until then everyone can only go with what they believe to be right per the rules. And once again hurting linking and no consistency."
Which is why I believe we need guidance from Invelos on whether they want to consider them honorifics or not. | | | Pete |

What we need now more than anything from Invelos (more than weighing on this question, more than an improved online collection display, more than any other improvement to the software or the website) is a decent, working linking system. I know it is going to be a tremendous amount of work to implement from the database as it is now, but there is a large community ready to do the work. I am convinced that many (including me) would gladly contribute to such an endeavour, much more than in the admirable but somewhat futile efforts to determine a common name, to propagate a good BY or eliminate the bad ones. |

In your opinion of course.... While I'd like a good functioning linking system, I'd rather have a better online and the ability to have multiple versions of the same UPC, including box set contents. | | | HDTV: 52" Toshiba Regza 52XV545U AVR: Onkyo TR-707 Speakers: Paradigm Monitor 7 v6, CC-190 & Atom Monitors Subwoofer: Definitive Technology ProSub 800 BD/DVD: Oppo BDP-93 (Region Free) HD PVR: Motorola DXC3400 500GB w/ 1TB Expander BD/DVD/Game: 250GB PS3 Slim DVD/Game: 250GB XBox 360 Elite Special Edition (Black) Game: Wii Remote: Logitech Harmony One w/ PS3 Adapter WHS: Acer H341 Windows Home Server |

| Posted: | | | | Well, it's good to know what the majority wants. So if this ever comes up, I won't be treating this as an honorific. | | | Last edited: by T!M |

You have (at his moment) 44 votes for probably many thousands users, so the statistical sample is far from being significant. And many contributors never post on the forum, so the majority of forum users means nothing. | | | Images from movies | | | Last edited: by surfeur51 |

And about this poll, to discuss whether Uncle is honorific or not has strictly no interest (btw, my opinion is no, it is not honorific). The only problem is to decide whether the honorific rule applies or not in such case (including Mr, Mrs, and others...) (btw, my opinion is yes, honorific rule applies). So the result of the poll has strictly no meaning about what to do, some people voting no wanting to apply the honorific rule. | | | Images from movies | | | Last edited: by surfeur51 |

| Posted: | | | | Quoting T!M: Quote: Since the previous thread clearly shows we're divided on the matter, I thought a poll would come in handy to get an idea of exactly how divided we are. Could be helpful in case Invelos wanted to weigh in on the matter.
Again, this is the rule on honorifics:
Quote: Military rank/affiliation or other honorifics should be included in the 'Credited As' field. Example: a credit of "Cpl. John Smith, USMC" should be entered as First Name: "John", Last Name "Smith", Credited As "Cpl. John Smith, USMC" Now: do "Uncle" "Aunt", "Mr." and "Mrs." qualify as honorifics? The poll should not include Mr. and Mrs. From all sources I have see those clearly are honorifics and not as ambiguous as Uncle or Aunt. Or at least the poll should separate them. Because people her are voiting on the "Uncle" issue in the previous thread and are probably not considering the <r. or Mrs. in their vote |
