That was clear for me Pete. I know that you know the difference between renting for a low price and buying for a higher price. The extras are exactly that, an extra for those who pay the extra cash... anyway when we rent a movie it's because we want to watch something we wouldn't purchase in the first place.

"Hate" and "Despise" are very strong words to me. I go nuts when posting but I don't truly hate or despise anyone. I suppose I stick around for the same reasons surfeur51 does.

My 2 contentions with stripped discs are:

1) "Movie only" is a *streaming* experience. That makes sense, because it's instant. In addition to whatever fee (membership or per disc), I have to either *wait* to get the disc, or make a trip to get it, then mail it back (easier) or make a trip to return it. For that, I expect the *experience* of a disc, which includes extras, unrated versions, deleted scenes, etc. I feel unfairly punished when I get a stripped disc.

2) The entrance of these stripped discs into the used marketplace. Video stores do not have some kind of "deal" where the studios will take back these discs. The video stores sell them used, either in bulk, or on an individual bases. These discs end up on places like eBay and Amazon Marketplace most of the time with no warnings that the disc is a stripped used rental. As DoubleDownAgain mentions, sometimes there is no indication even when physically buying the used disc at a store.

It seems *most* users here say they don't care or don't have a problem with it; I can't remember who it was but it was actually one person who used the word "happy" to describe their feelings about this. I don't hate or despise him or others for thinking like this, it just blows me away is all. To me, it's akin to paying $10 for a lunch every day, then, one day you're told you either have to pay $20 or get a half portion for $10, and you say, "I don't have a problem with that," or, "That makes me happy." My brain has a really hard time getting around the fact that there are consumers out there who think like this.

Why? Maybe that is a problem you should work on.

Since when does a small number of people become "most"?

If you don't like stipped discs - don't buy them. But, why should you judge or go "nuts" because someone doesn't want or need the extras?

This seems really odd to me, as many of the DVDs I've had for years have come with either no extras at all, or just a theatrical trailer as an extra, so sitting down and just watching a movie is, for me, the DVD "experience".

By "go nuts" I simply mean post passionately my true thoughts. Older guys like me who come from the AOL mid 90's Internet days tend to not really take anything involving "The Internet" seriously. That's not the norm anymore; I try to adjust, but I often find myself too set in my ways.

Anyways, like I said, I don't actually hate or despise any of you guys in real life.

Believe me, I have far more important and tragic things in real life that I have to "work on" than worrying that posting my candid thoughts on an Internet forum about DVD's meets with your or anyone's approval. But thanks for the concern.

By the way...

...you did catch the part about not be able to tell if a disc is stripped or not before purchase, right? It doesn't sound like it.

It seems those who rent/purchase rental discs are well aware that they may/may not be stripped and are willing to accept that fact.

My point was that it seems that YOU care and care passionately that your DVDs have all the extras and therefore you shouldn't take a chance on ex-rentals.

What I don't understand is why you become contentious towards those who do.

I wasn't even aware that Netflix shipped DVD discs .. I thought they only streamed to your home and six devices  in HD  along with 5.1 and subtitles ...
