I think he means taking the artwork out of the case, so you aren't scanning through the clear plastic. Sarcasm, some people get it, some don't |

Then I scan the whole cover at 600dpi as BMP.
It's about 80 megs in size.
Then I copy the file once.
Then I open my old ACDSee 3.0 and cut the front cover from one file and the back cover from another.
Then I save the file (still BMP) and then I use the auto-adjust feature. Then I compare if the cover looks better with or without auto-adjust.
At this point the picture is still several 1000 pixels wide. I resize it to 700 height (DVD) or 500 width (BR) and ave it in a temporary BMP.
I open the BMP and check for any still visible irregularities (scratch, dirt).
If so, I correct the errors to the best of my abilities with MS Paint in the big picture and shrink it again.
If I'm satisfied, I save the picture in the final size (still BMP).
Now I open DVDP and select the picture. DVDP will transform it from BMP to JPG.
Using BMP to the end prevents the picture from being compressed multiple times and thus reduces the creation of artifacts. | | | Karsten DVD Collectors Online

I think on my next scan I'll try it both ways, and see if I can tell the two apart. | | | HDTV: 52" Toshiba Regza 52XV545U AVR: Onkyo TR-707 Speakers: Paradigm Monitor 7 v6, CC-190 & Atom Monitors Subwoofer: Definitive Technology ProSub 800 BD/DVD: Oppo BDP-93 (Region Free) HD PVR: Motorola DXC3400 500GB w/ 1TB Expander BD/DVD/Game: 250GB PS3 Slim DVD/Game: 250GB XBox 360 Elite Special Edition (Black) Game: Wii Remote: Logitech Harmony One w/ PS3 Adapter WHS: Acer H341 Windows Home Server |

I wasn't sure, it's hard to know for sure when reading message boards. | | | HDTV: 52" Toshiba Regza 52XV545U AVR: Onkyo TR-707 Speakers: Paradigm Monitor 7 v6, CC-190 & Atom Monitors Subwoofer: Definitive Technology ProSub 800 BD/DVD: Oppo BDP-93 (Region Free) HD PVR: Motorola DXC3400 500GB w/ 1TB Expander BD/DVD/Game: 250GB PS3 Slim DVD/Game: 250GB XBox 360 Elite Special Edition (Black) Game: Wii Remote: Logitech Harmony One w/ PS3 Adapter WHS: Acer H341 Windows Home Server |

The last step is to resize and save as JPG at a compression-rate of my liking and copy that one back to the DVD-Profiler-folder. I prefer not to do this in DVD Profiler, cos I'm thinking that GIMP handles image-manipulation better. For copying the files around I use TradingPoster TG 1.5 with a custom entry: copy "%USERPROFILE%\Documents\DVD Profiler\Databases\Default\Images\TP_ProfileIDf.jpg" "$Workdirectory\TP_Title_FileName avers - TP_ProfileIDf.jpg" copy "%USERPROFILE%\Documents\DVD Profiler\Databases\Default\Images\TP_ProfileIDb.jpg" "$Workdirectory\TP_Title_FileName revers - TP_ProfileIDb.jpg" move /Y "$Workdirectory\TP_Title_FileName avers - TP_ProfileIDf.jpg" "%USERPROFILE%\Documents\DVD Profiler\Databases\Default\Images\TP_ProfileIDf.jpg" move /Y "$Workdirectory\TP_Title_FileName revers - TP_ProfileIDb.jpg" "%USERPROFILE%\Documents\DVD Profiler\Databases\Default\Images\TP_ProfileIDb.jpg"(replace $Workdirectory accordingly) Edited for the new Version of TradingPoster TG, now with movie-titles, thus better human readability Just put what this entry produces in an editor and c&p the necessary line to the command-line to get the old cover to your working directory, do the image-thing and move them back. You should either end DVD Profiler or load a different db prior to the moving covers back, otherwise Profiler reacts a bit funny, such as not updating the thumbnail for the new cover cya, Mithi | | | Mithi's little XSLT tinkering - the power of XML --- DVD-Profiler Mini-Wiki | | | Last edited: by Mithi |

| Posted: | | | | Humm depends if I just have one to do or several.
If it is just a 1 I do it in DVDP. Just adjust within the twain driver/software
Scan at 120dpi preview then final, and if it needs it crop in DVDP
If I have several I just do it in Paintshop Pro. I don't worry about naming as they get copied to the DVDP folders and I delete after I am done.

| Posted: | | | | Just got a new Canon scanner/printer, so I'll be back to scanning covers again. The HP went down 2 weeks ago, since then I've gotten DVD's that are not in the database or have no cover scans so I won't even watch them unless I can do a complete contribution with scans. |
