I've never thrown away a slip cover. I save all of those back sheets that Warner likes to slap on their box sets, for example. And if I ever toss any of the non-related inserts ("this blu-ray disc has been manufactured to the highest standards...blah blah"), I feel pangs of guilt.

I, too, have this same sickness.  In face, I still have a lot of the non-related inserts.
No dictator, no invader can hold an imprisoned population by force of arms forever.
There is no greater power in the universe than the need for freedom.
Against this power, governments and tyrants and armies cannot stand.

We will teach it to them again.
Though it take a thousand years, we will be free.

I must admit there was a bit of pain when I recycled all my cases and slipcovers, but I'm so pleased with the space I got that I'd do it again in a heartbeat.

Slip covers are nothing more than packaging and should not be allowed in the database, IMO. That is why I scan my own and lock all my covers.

Reading this... while I of course don't have a problem with it... I just have to ask... you said you throw them all away. So I was wondering... as I have seen many that uses partial or clear slip covers where half the artwork is on the slip cover and half is on the actual case. I even seen some where the title of the film is on the slip cover only with no title on the actual case at all. You throw these types away as well? Or do you somehow see these as a completely different thing?

I think I am a collector but when money is tight and Blu ray prices lower so quickly it seems more responsible to purchase when their lower in price and sometimes when doing so you miss out on slip covers.

So I think I will seperate from all my slip covers and pack them away in case I change my mind later.
And in return be able to buy more movies becouse Ill be buying them cheaper.

My only wish now is for Invelose to have the feature to do either cover art.

Can someone tell me what the point of a slip cover is?

The same point that wooden boxes, acrylic boxes, gimmicks, MediaBooks, etc. have too.
Nobody really needs them, but they help to distinguish this releases from the odd ones and thereby add value.

Quote:
Do they actually have any practical value?

No, but this is correct for all CaseTypes. A simple cotton-cloth sleeve would completely suffice.
Not to mention the saved storage space, when reducing the package to a mere sleeve.

Quote:
They just seem to become tatty and are a pain to scan too.

While we're on it, what about glossy, lenticular, or all other non-standard covers?
Neon-Colours can't be processed by many scanners, should those be omitted too?
It all seems so stupid, it makes me want to give up!
But why should I give up, when it all seems so stupid?
