It's hard for me to see this as anything other than taking control of the database and application away from Invelos, mainly due to users' being frustrated by a perceived neglect of the database and program from the developer(s).

I feel Invelos really needs to step in and give a ruling on whether this project is condoned or not. Personally I am suspicious of Mediadogg's agenda due to the commercial link he has continued to have in his signature.

I would recommend to Invelos to project a firm stance on this project before it picks up steam. I don't think it's a good idea for Invelos to condone this project. Instead, they should take note of the issues that are being addressed, and incorporate them into future version(s) of the program. This is their commercial product and they need to show an ownership of it, from both a practical and legal standpoint.

If mediadogg and others want to continue this project, they should proceed with a separate competing application. I strongly recommend that Invelos NOT allow this to be advertised and discussed on their own forums, nor to continue to allow commercial advertising in user signatures.

This may sound harsh to this community but you have to understand that I cannot think of any commercial software developer that would ever allow discussion of alternate application development and control, or commercial software advertising on company forums. I believe it is practical and sound advice for Invelos to "nip this in the bud" so to speak, before it becomes a very messy legal can of worms.

And, maybe if Invelos did this there would be no need for users to band together in an attempt to come up with a solution to the many issues affecting the program and its contributors.

Well, hopefully, Invelos won't see it that way. They have always been incredibly supportive and encouraging of user participation. They may well see this as a way to get things done without too much effort on their part.

Lastly, to suggest that mediadogg has nefarious intentions is downright insulting and unfair. The guy doesn't get four star rating in this forum by being anything but helpful.
Your 'the sky is falling, the sky is falling' attitude is the worst kind of pessimism. And anyway, I would think that Ken has a lot more business know-how than you are giving him credit for. If this is a concern for Invelos I'm damned sure he will be aware and act accordingly.

Excellent document mediadogg

If this all works out as planned, this really could help Invelos and the database!

Would be truly helpful if Ken gives that projectb a GO!

Cmon Ken , get out of your hiding

Well folks, time to call the question. I have uploaded the document labeled "Final", with most of the suggested edits. I know that there are still a couple of formatting glitches - I couldn't fix them.

I will open a support ticket requesting some kind of response from Invelos.

With that, my friends, I will take a welcome break from these activities. I might go back to debugging plugins, but I'm not even sure I'm in the mood for that right now.

Thanks to all. The greatest satisfaction I got from this was working with such a large number of creative, highly motivated, highly opinionated people, and we produced a positive result in a civil manner. It wasn't a cakewalk; even I got called on the carpet a couple of times - but no locked threads, and lots of deference, tolerance and restraint was exercised. Everybody - collective "pat on the back" and big hugs.

Now enjoy this:

I hope you have better luck with the support ticket then I have lately...

I had 3 open support tickets... the earliest from August 11th... and they all were just closed yesterday! They are marked as answered.... but I checked all 3 of them and I didn't get any type of answer for any of them!!!

Real nice support Invelos!

I replied to one of the support tickets with something similar to the above... was answered right away with....

They're marked as answered when forwarded. I know that Ken is prepping two program releases right now, so they may not get an immediate response, but they're not being ignored.

Big news. Got a most encouraging and positive response directly from Ken. I have asked for permission to repeat his reply here, unless he plans to do it himself.

Edit: Ah, there it is. Ken's direct reply!!!!

Sorry about that. I have had to ban some IP addresses due to SPAM attacks. Every now and then, it blocks a legitimate server. Maybe that's the problem.

Anyway, I put the document on my Verizon site. Should be OK. Let me know.

Just a brief note that this has not gone unnoticed that that I will return focus to this and other contribution topics immediately after the releases of iOS version 2.0 and Android version 1.0.

I want to thank mediadogg and the other members of the community in their efforts to improve the database.

I see that Ken is aware and will soon focus on contribution issues.

As usual I'm late for the parade

Great job on the document mediadogg and great to see Ken saw it and will certainly take into account some of our suggestion. At least I hope the Contribution Wizard idea from GSyen will be a possibility, you can bet I'll be back contributing with it and I'm sure others wouldl too.

I've only had time to breeze through it, but what I've read is just fantastic work!

My goodness, if this goes through it very well motivate me to start submitting again.

Again, really fantastic work here.
