| Posted: | | | | I'll admit I didn't see it initiately ( the BY) .. but most times my own data base doesn't contain a/ the 'BY' and it will show up in the cast/crew during a voting profiling .. I just presumed it was already authorized ( since there was no menmtion at all of this by by the contributor .., and my own data base didn't have to start with .. BUT glad it was all sorted out.. (and Heads up for Skip who saw this and get the right results done .....) | | | In the 60's, People took Acid to make the world Weird. Now the World is weird and People take Prozac to make it Normal.

Profiler ices birth year data as a discriminator between two or more people with the same name and such data must be documented. We currently have a film up for vote from one of film's best directors including his by undocumented and there is only one such name in film, yet people are blindly voting yes. The name of the director Alfred Hitchcock. I'm the one who submitted the BY info (complete with supporting links) for AH. It was approved. So it IS documented...you're wrong on this one, Skip. | | | My one wish for the DVD Profiler online database: Ban or remove the disc-level profiles of TV season sets. It completely screws up/inflates the CLT. FACT: Imdb is WRONG 70% of the time! Misspelled cast, incomplete cast, wrong cast/crew roles. So for those who want DVD Profiler to be "as perfect as Imdb", good luck with that. Stop adding UNIT crew! They're invalid credits. Stop it! | | | Last edited: by huskersports |

It may very well be documented in the BY thread, but if not noted in the contribution notes, then the rules are not being followed. Quoting The Rules Quote: Contribution Notes
When you contribute a changed profile, you are required to include Contribution Notes. Use the space to enter full explanations for all changes and/or additions that you make. Make special reference to any changes where:
You have verified there is a discrepancy between the box and the actual content of the DVD - include your verification method. You are making a subtle change that may be hard to spot - for example spelling correction to the overview. You are removing incorrect information.
Contribution Notes provide an explanation of your changes to other DVD Profiler users and Invelos for voting and deciding whether to accept your contribution, so make your notes useful and descriptive. emphasis by meYou do not necessarily need to provide the exact documentation in the notes if included in the thread, but a reference to the change and the thread should be included. This serves the purpose of 1. Acknowledging that you are aware of the change 2. allows the voters/screeners a reference for the change It is not the voters responsibility to research in the BY thread or anyplace else. That onus belongs to the contributor, and the contributor alone. An opinion Charlie |

Why should the "Screeners" approve the profile, if the rules aren't followed? Sometimes it is not about a piece of data being right or wrong, it is a matter of who is providing the evidence. As a voter, it is not my responsibility to provide the documentation. If documentation is not provided within the contribution notes, it is not an abuse to vote no with the comment "XXX not documented within the notes" Charlie |

I will vote no on a contribution every time if a change is not documented in the notes, even if I know the data is correct. I think it is important that changes are properly documented in the contribution notes for the voters, screeners and for future reference. Also it gives the contributor a chance to adjust the contribution notes. I will however contribute the change with proper notes myself should the contribution be declined. |

That is not strange, it's adhering to the contribution rules. If a change is documented in a thread on the forum a reference to that should be included in the notes. |

Charlie It may very well be documented in the BY thread, but if not noted in the contribution notes, then the rules are not being followed. That's true. My apologies to you. Anyone know the UPC of this contribution that's got people in a tizzy? I'll contribute the profile (with supporting notes) so we can put an end to this thread! | | | My one wish for the DVD Profiler online database: Ban or remove the disc-level profiles of TV season sets. But is incorrect to vote yes if the data is correct? The rules tell us here Quoting The Rules Quote: Voting Rules
All voting should be based on support of these Rules.
If a user is following the Contribution Rules and his/her data is accurate, and the contribution replaces data which is inaccurate or violates these Contribution Rules, a "No" vote is considered an abuse of the voting privilege and should be avoided when possible. Conversely, voting "Yes" to a contribution which violates these Contribution Rules should also be avoided. Include a reason for any "No" vote that you cast in order to provide useful feedback to the contributor (and the Invelos Reviewers.) "Vote stuffing", or voting more than once for (or against) a contribution with more than one account is a serious violation of voting rules. This includes bypassing safeguards to vote for your own contribution. Violations will result in immediate loss of voting ability. So the answer, according to the rules, If documentation is not provided, it is a violation of the rules, therefor a yes vote should be avoided. Does this mean that you can't vote yes? No it does not. Not only are you voting on Data but also as to whether the contribution complies with the Contribution Rules. One of those rules specifically spells out how a contribution must be documented in the Contribution Notes: Contribution NotesWhen you contribute a changed profile, you are required to include Contribution Notes.
