The problem with that region of the rules is that it was written by a Brit. And in the UK a "series" is the equivalent to a US "season"

My gut tells me to not include individual info into a Complete Series Box Set but to attach the proper child profiles and enter the data there.

If that is the case then UPC 025192010378 needs to be corrected.  Because I made the conrtibution by not only how I interpreted the rules, but by that example also.

Also if that is the case what is the chance of getting the rules updated and more clear?

I believe your profile for Battlestar Galactica is correct because the individual seasons are not packaged separately. Is that the case?

No it is not.  BSG: TCS Limited edotion the season are in their own cases within the box set

Do the individual season cases have their own UPC?

No, but neither do the Stargate Atlantis ones

Both BSG and  SGA have the seasons packaged in different cases, but are not UPC based.

BSG Limited edition comes with 4 boxes in the set, echa contains a season an no UPC on any of the cases. BSG has had individual season releases, but what the seasons in the complete series set do not have individual UPC's

SGA comes with 3 Amaray cases in a slip case, one congaining seasons 1 and 2, a second containing seasons 3 and 4 and the third containging season 5.  No UPC's on the cases, they have not even released the seasons individually on blu-ray to my knowledge

From Oct. 24 to Nov 24 I built or borrowed from the online db 250 profiles for TV series and have 100 more to build.

If the season (sets) have their own UPC (EAN) I enter them as children under the complete set's profile.

If the seasons UPC exits on the online db, down load it, keep the data (release date, et...) that goes with it, assuming it is correct.
_____________________________________________________________________

If the individual season (sets) doesn't exist build profile parent/child profile as you normally would and add them to the complete set's profile.

Currently working on Law & Order; 20 sasons, 104 discs.
I have six season complete, and the the rest in peofiles built but all the data is not complete yet.
example:
Law & Order: The Complete Series: UPC 025192104008
  Law & Order: Season 1:1990-1991: UPC 025192120688
Law & Order: Year  1 (Sort title)
      by disc ID
Law & Order: The First Year: 1990-1991 Season: Disc One
Law & Order: Year  1: Disc 1 (Sort title)
Law & Order: The First Year: 1990-1991 Season: Disc Two
Law & Order: The First Year: 1990-1991 Season: Disc Three
Law & Order: The First Year: 1990-1991 Season: Disc Four
Law & Order: The First Year: 1990-1991 Season: Disc Five
Law & Order: The First Year: 1990-1991 Season: Disc Six
Law & Order: The Second Year: 1991-1992 Season : UPC 025192120800
..

.
Law & Order: The Nineteenth Year: 2008-2009 Season: UPC 025192103896
Law & Order: Year 19 (Sort title)

.
Law & Order: The Twentieth Year: 2009-2010 Season: UPC 025192103902
Law & Order: Year 20  (Sort title)
by disc ID
Law & Order: The Twentieth Year: 2009-2010 Season: Disc One
Law & Order: Year 20: Disc 1 (Sort title)
Law & Order: The Twentieth Year: 2009-2010 Season: Disc Two
Law & Order: The Twentieth Year: 2009-2010 Season: Disc Three
Law & Order: The Twentieth Year: 2009-2010 Season: Disc Four
Law & Order: The Twentieth Year: 2009-2010 Season: Disc Five

If the season (sets) do not have an UPC (EAN) but are package separately enter them as any child but I use the cover scans for the their discs and label thus title: season x: disc 1,2...y.

Then I stand by my statement that your profile for BSG: TCS Limited Edition is correctly set up.

Then by that reasoning shouldn't the SGA have the disc information in the parent profile since the individual cases are not UPC based like BSG?

EDIT: Because it seems to me by that criteria eitehr BSG: TCS Limited edition is wrong or my submission is correct.  Keep in mind I want to do what is correct. I am just trying to understand the differences so we can all ne consistant.

With TV, it's very common for the same discs to end up in several sets. Why go to the expense of re-authoring if you don't need to? Anything other than profiling the contents of that disc only will cause conflicts between releases. I think this is a hold-over from before disc-level profiles.

Disc ID's in the parent?

TV Series Box Sets are set up in the following two ways, at least in my collection.

1)

BOX SET (UPC# 097360419641) No Disc IDs, Cast & Crew, etc. Set up like a Movie Box Set. (Example: Star Trek: The Next Generation: The Complete Seasons 1-7)

- SEASON 1 (UPC# 097361569246) Child Profile
    - Disc 1 (Disc ID #) (Grandchild Profile)
    - Disc 2 (Disc ID #) (Grandchild Profile)
    - Disc 3 (Disc ID #) (Grandchild Profile)
    - Disc 4 (Disc ID #) (Grandchild Profile)
    - Disc 5 (Disc ID #) (Grandchild Profile)
    - Disc 6 (Disc ID #) (Grandchild Profile)
    - Disc 7 (Disc ID #) (Grandchild Profile)

- SEASON 2 (UPC# 097361569048) Child Profile
    - Disc 1 (Disc ID #) (Grandchild Profile)
    - Disc 2 (Disc ID #) (Grandchild Profile)
    - Disc 3 (Disc ID #) (Grandchild Profile)
    - Disc 4 (Disc ID #) (Grandchild Profile)
    - Disc 5 (Disc ID #) (Grandchild Profile)
    - Disc 6 (Disc ID #) (Grandchild Profile)

- SEASON 3 (UPC# 097361569543) Child Profile
    - Disc 1 (Disc ID #) (Grandchild Profile)
    - Disc 2 (Disc ID #) (Grandchild Profile)
    - Disc 3 (Disc ID #) (Grandchild Profile)
    - Disc 4 (Disc ID #) (Grandchild Profile)
    - Disc 5 (Disc ID #) (Grandchild Profile)
    - Disc 6 (Disc ID #) (Grandchild Profile)
    - Disc 7 (Disc ID #) (Grandchild Profile)

Etc.

2)

BOX SET (UPC# 024543212904) Disc IDs, Cast & Crew, etc, are included in Parent. (Example: Buffy the Vampire Slayer: The Chosen Collection)

    - Disc 1 (Disc ID #) (Child Profile) (Child Profiles are optional because everything is included in Parent)
    - Disc 2 (Disc ID #) (Child Profile) (Child Profiles are optional because everything is included in Parent)
    - Disc 3 (Disc ID #) (Child Profile) (Child Profiles are optional because everything is included in Parent)
    - Disc 4 (Disc ID #) (Child Profile) (Child Profiles are optional because everything is included in Parent)

Etc.

Users that are setting up #2 as though it were a #1 are wrong and should not be contributing them that way. Using the Disc ID of the first disc as though it were a UPC # for the First Season is wrong. This screws it up for the rest of the community when they try to add that Disc ID as a Child Profile for the actual individual season release.

The releases that Scooter1836 refers to, BSG: TCS Limited edition and SGA, fall into the #2 category where the Box has a UPC# but the discs included in the set, although in seperate containers, have no UPC.

I would agree and deciding whcih to use by whether or not the individual disc containers are UPC based is consistant with the other box set rules as far as whether the child profiles are by Disc ID or UPC.

And it also makes sense that Series collections based on UPC the parent eould not have the disc information since the individual UPC's within the set would have them already
