This is exactly why the Rule on "Original Title" needs to be changed.  First, we should be taking it from the credit block on the back of the DVD case

We'll have different Original Titles then.

If rules were based on a minimum of common sense, we would not have any nightmare. After all, when you (generic) speak of this movie with friends, what do you say ? "Scream 4" or "Scre Four M" ?

I say "Narnia 3" when I speak of "The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader". Ordinary language is no good data source.

This is exactly why the Rule on "Original Title" needs to be changed.  First, we should be taking it from the credit block on the back of the DVD case.  In this case, "Scream4".  If no credit block, then the take it from the film's credits.  Then the foreign language Rule kicks in, where applicable.

Then a "title search" needs to look at both "Title" and "Original Title".

The original title rules do not need to be changed in my opinion.

Since these new "seach title" can be subjective in nature.  Here should be several new fields provided for title base searching.

I think you are looking to modify a rule to solve a problem rather than solving the root cause which a movie needs an additional set of search tags associated with them.  Rather than change a meaning of a database element (and it's meaning)  we should add seach fields, so there can be many.

"Th13teen Ghosts" is a good example.  You could create search tags by both "13 Ghosts" and "Thirteen Ghosts" and the title and original totle the way it is.  Now in this case since some may prefer one to the other, who decides which one is best?

Actually, we need ADDITIONAL title fields: Cover, Credit block, On-Screen, Original and Alternate.  A title search would have to check all of these.  If by "additional set of search tags" that is what you mean, then I apologize.  If not, then your solution would do nothing for "SCRE4M" since both the cover (the "Title" field) and the onscreen title (the "Original Title" field) are both "SCRE4M".

THAT is what I would like to see. Not any change to the rules. I think the title rules are good as they are. Add the additional title fields Hal mentioned. And make them all searchable.

That is what I meant.  Because I agree, the box, original and credit version of this title is "Scre4m" ao the fields as they satnd as far as title and original title are correct.  But by saynig several seach tags I was also thinking several alternate title for searching.  Since like "Th13teen Ghosts" more than one might be helpful.

Exactly, changing a rule of a defined database element instead of correcting the root cause of the problem is a case of the "tail wagging the dog"

I'm completely down with common sense, therre are few things it couldn't solve if utilized and this rule would be one of them. Hell, it might even fix the republicans!

Also loving Hal's idea for various title fields for weird ones like this.

simple: three amigos and "Search within title"

But that shows another problem, the search-function is simply defective in my opinion.
A search for three amigos shows titles which contain the string "three amigos", not all titles that contain the strings "three" and "amigos" anywhere in the title.
