In the meantine however (and that was my reason to post here), am I to understand from those replies that the consensus is to give the lesser of two credits when the actual credit cannot be entered and falls between two existing credits?
No. If it cannot be entered, it cannot be entered. So, let me see if I got it right: Imagine a megalomaniac director/producer (some are, I am told) who decides to credit himself as, say, "Supreme Ruler of the Movie Set", and this is how his name appears in the film credits (not as director, not as producer). You are telling me that the profile should have a blank field for director, a blank field for producer, and that the name of that director/producer should not appear in the profile? |

Yes, you have it right. It has been well known for some time now that the users here strongly support a very strict following of the rules to the exact letter in favor over accurate data when common sense is applied to unique or odd situations. | | | 99.9% of all cat plans consist only of "Step 1." |

Without some kind of contributable custom credits, which btw has been requested many times, this is the way it has to be done for the online. What you do locally is entirely up to you of course. | | | First registered: February 15, 2002 |

Yes, you have it right. It has been well known for some time now that the users here strongly support a very strict following of the rules to the exact letter in favor over accurate data when common sense is applied to unique or odd situations. That depends on what you mean by accurate data. To enter a fictitious director credit when none exist does not represent accurate data to me. This is why we need a way to preserve the original credit if we are to enter such "odd" situations in the online, otherwise we can never be sure what the real credit is without looking at the disc. And the database becomes pointless if I have to look at the disc anyway. | | | First registered: February 15, 2002 |

| Posted: | | | | I seldomly do any crew update.. but going by the rules if the credit is not in the chart then it cannot be added to the online database. Rules Quote: Quote: Group names of crew members together within each role available and list in exactly the same order credited. The table below gives each of the crew roles available within DVD Profiler. For each category, include only those people credited with the roles listed in the "Role" and "Credited As" columns. If someone is not credited with one of these roles (or direct translations of these roles), do not include them in the Crew section. As the rule stands today... I don't see how anyone can add anything at all that isn't in the chart. Even if it means there will be no Director or no Producer or what have you in the profile. Of course locally you can have whatever you want. But it can't be uploaded to the online if it isn't in the chart or a direct translation (for foreign movies). | | | Pete |

| Posted: | | | | Thanks for the answers. I don't agree but I understand the rationale. Of course this reduces considerably the attraction to contribute and it diminishes the interest of the database (for crew at least).
I'll take back my previous no vote. | | | Last edited: by Wigram |
