It's true that you need specific hardware to enjoy Blu-ray 3D, but I think the same is valid for Picture-in-Picture (not all player are PiP enabled) as well as BD Live (you need a BD player that can be connected to the Internet), both of which are Features. Yes, this is true. In some level I understand if Blu-ray 3D is added in Features. But on the other hand, there aren't any separate Blu-ray releases released in same day from same movie where one has all features and other has PiP or BD Live dropped out, or is there? (Old bare bone vs new special edition doesn't count)But almost all Blu-ray 3D releases has separate non 3D release as well. This is the reason why I want new media type for 3D. Quoting Taro: Quote: One nasty little thing is the Blu-ray 3D + Blu-ray combos as basically you would have two child profiles that are very similar to each other, where only the Features and possibly audio tracks will differ. Same goes for BD and DVD combos and still we contribute DVD as child profile. How many times do we need to repeat that DVD and Blu-Ray are two different type of medias? How many times do we need to repeat that Blu-Ray and Blu-ray DVD are the same type of medias? Special features and the edition field exist for those case, that look really simple to me to do without creating an imaginary disc type. |

| Posted: | | | | Treating Blu-ray 3D as a separate format does seem to be the easiest way to handle issues of compatibility. yes, DTS didn't work in older DVD players and picture-in-picture didn't work in old Blu-ray players, but in both cases, the movies themselves still worked. All DTS DVDs must include a PCM or Dolby Digital audio track as well. You could still watch The Matrix in an old Blu-ray player. You just couldn't watch the PiP track. Some 3D Blu-rays are like this, btu a significant number won't work at all on 2D players. If Blu-ray 3D is implemented as a new medium, we can just check Blu-ray 3D, Blu-ray 2D or both and know which players it will work in. If we implement it as a feature, it will either need to be rather different from how current features are implemented or not be able to tell you whether the disc will work in a 2D player. |

| Posted: | | | | We know 3D-Blu-Ray is not a own format. But look how 3D is technicaly done on the disc: Its just a second videostream!
So this could be a simple solution: There are one to x audiostreams per disc (english dts/spanish dolby digital/...). Same should be possible for the video: 1st stream: 2D widescreen anamorph, 2nd stream: 2D fullscreen, 3rd stream: 3D anaglyph, 4th stream: 3D stereoscopic,... |

There are currently three unique "media" devices in use today: SD DVD, HD-DVD (died a quick death) and Blu-ray Disc. Currently it should be handled as a "Other Feature". I would support wholeheartedly the addition of Blu-ray 3D to the Features section of DVD Profiler just as has been done with Digital Copy. Just my 2 cents . | | | My WebGenDVD online Collection |

| Posted: | | | | For me it is simple. As long as we do not have the future to separate, it has to be written in the Edition field like: 3D Edition. This is against the rules, but it helps to find with a search "3D" all my 3D films. Do not make it to complicate, think as a normal user would think and use it. He adds with UPC the disc and awaits that he can find his 3D films as I do. I myself have many films twice, a 2D version and another with the 3D version. Two separate cases and UPC. So I will know which one is the 3D version, without having to look at the cover image as they sometimes not mention that it is real 3D.
Sometimes when I read here it seems to me a bit to technical and not thinking like a normal user does use the DVD Profiler. For most users rules and such things are words he doesn't bother, he just likes to use it and have the possibility to see immediately this is 3D, this is not. He shouldn't be forced to change things when the film is in the database. Then it should be fine for a normal user and not only for us technical and rules freaks :-)

We definitely need Blu-ray 3D in official Media Type.
I'll try to explain my thoughts a bit.
Lets take two examples:
1) First Blu-ray release of Coraline. - This release includes anaglyph 3D version along with few glasses. - Title nor Edition fields shouldn't have 3D mentioned. - This 3D version we should include in Features checkbox list as e.g. Anaglyph 3D (or something else), also some DVD release would benefit from this. - No need for new Media Type for this.
2) Despicable Me release with 3D. - This release includes "real" stereoscopic 3D (Blu-ray 3D) version and 2D version on second disc. - Title nor Edition fields shouldn't have 3D mentioned because it isn't mentioned on cover. - For this version we need that Blu-ray 3D Media Type so we can add this to database as Blu-ray 3D + Blu-ray combo release.
Here is screenshot of that situation:
I have made custom Media Type for Blu-ray 3D. Both Blu-ray media types checked. And regular 2D version disc added as child profile.
This is exactly the same what we have used with Blu-ray + DVD combo releases. So, why we should do something different now with Blu-ray 3D + Blu-ray (or even Blu-ray 3D + Blu-ray + DVD) combo releases.
Yes I know that in the end only real difference between Blu-ray 3D and Blu-ray is on different video codecs. But seriously, can we really compare Blu-ray 3D in same way as MPEG-2, AVC and VC-1 codecs on regular Blu-ray releases. I think not. Blu-ray 3D is so much more than just another (MVC) codec. For example, you need special hardware to watch those movies.
Therefore Blu-ray 3D should be included as official Media Type. Where did you get that 3D Blu-ray logo/icon from? Could you post a link? Regards Remi |

Yes, 3D Blu-rays are recorded on a Blu-ray medium, fair enough. But I am convinced that most users see it as a separate entity next to DVDs and Blu-rays. If you go to your local shop, I bet the 3D Blu-rays have an extra shelf and are not stocked together with normal Blu-rays.
I would see 3D Blu-rays either as a new medium or in the Edition pulldown menu. The features section is the wrong place. Features are additional things you find on the Blu-ray or further give-aways like Digital Copies. But a 3D Blu-ray is not an additional thing, it is an entirely different thing altogether. It is not what is recorded on the medium, but how it is recorded. |
