| Posted: | | | | Well if you are using the mac you won't be able to run profiler.. You could only use your mac to see your library on line.., . With that said.., Do you want to use your windows PC? or not? .. If so hook up your HD to the IDE cable and and then reboot the windows PC.. It should find and start up windows using the C:drive of your PC .. Other wise you may want to use a forum such virtualdr.com as this is a dvd forum and our specialty is with Movies and dvd's and its program.. Not a forum for rebuilding and getting your PC up and running.. | | | In the 60's, People took Acid to make the world Weird. Now the World is weird and People take Prozac to make it Normal.

| Posted: | | | | Yes I want to get my windows PC up and running but I thought I might be able to run dvd profiler on an emulator in the meantime.
I will try both your suggestions, Thanks. | | | For every Great Musician, there was a next-door neighbor who said "Man, I wish that guy would SHUT UP !!!" |

| Posted: | | | | Quoting Taro: Quote: Yes, the reason I suggested that is because the 'local only' data (headshots, your own covers, just to name a few) don't get uploaded to the Invelos servers. So I would first try to rescue the .dpb and keep the download option as a last resort. The things lost with using the online copy as a backup are the image elements (both headshots and custom covers) and non-profile related customizations (layouts, reports, tag lists, plugins.) All the personalized profile data itself and users/history is retained... AFAICT. One system I use has the database exclusively synced with just the online copy, and I have yet to find anything missing from it in these respects. When you (the OP) get your PC system back running don't be afraid to use the online copy if you have to, though recovering the local backup is of course preferred. | | | Last edited: by Cyclograph |

No I'm using my mac, i've tried putting it on a cd, I've tried using a flash drive but it will only look in drive A the cd bit didn't work because I have the windows operating system in that drive and can't eject because it's halfway through loading when I am supposed to insall the drivers An USB floppy drive shouldn't cost too much. Or if your computer is powerfull enough to handle it buy Vista/Windows7 - being less than 8 years old they are actually designed to work on a system without a floppy - not to mention they would most likely support your hardware without the need for any additional hardware. | | | Regards Lars |

Here's a tool for Windows XP (nLite) and here the equivalent for Windos Vista (vLite).
If you have any questions just ask. Good luck! Yep looked at this alternative but I need a PC to make the slipstream CD, my PC is dead and can't do the same on a mac. I have a friend who is more PC savvy who's going to sort out mine for me, in the meantime i'm using virtual PC although it's better than nothing it's extremely slow running DVD Profiler | | | For every Great Musician, there was a next-door neighbor who said "Man, I wish that guy would SHUT UP !!!" |

I have done this a number of time "in the old days" on a pre-USB PC with no floppy: I'm assuming "can't eject" means you don't want to ... If in fact you can physically cause the CD to eject, go ahead, as long as it is noit being actively accessed, put in the driver CD and attempt installation. If you get a message saying the windows CD is not found, put it back in. Then you might get a message saying the driver CD is not found. Put it back in, and so forth, as many times as necessary. If you are lucky, you will be asked for the windows CD one last time, and the installation will go ahead and proceed. | | | Thanks for your support. Free Plugins available here. | Posted: | | | | I have a similar problem, except my replacement machine is also a PC. Until it arrives, I won't know what can be salvaged from my old hard drive.
If I can get the entire DVD profiler directory and copy it to my PC, is registering DVDprofiler on that new PC a problem? Do I just use the same registration key which I got when I originally installed?
Or is copying the files (and creating a new shortcut enough)? Do I even need to re-register? |

Or is copying the files (and creating a new shortcut enough)? Do I even need to re-register? you'll want to get the dvd profiler directory from your my documents folder not the program files folder. for that you can just download the install from the download section on this site and then enter your name and key (under the registration section) since your collection is online, if you can't recover the directory (or a backup if you have one, though a backup should be located on a different drive) you can after entering your key download your collection from the online. However any custom cover images and/or cast and crew images will not be included. -Agrare |
