Great,, then you won't mind if I use the Universal legacy series of the titles I currently own: Deer Hunter,The Sting, Double Indeminity (both the 1942 and the 1974 discs), & To Kill a Mockingbird; all are encoded with SDH and are currently not CC, and are not properly subtitled either. So I can tick off all three languages for subtiles for this Universal Legacy set and I should get all yes votes. ( except for Skip).,, . Umm...did I miss the part where SDH automatically means English, French and Spanish??? |

Quote: Where? I find checkboxes for "commentary", "trivia" and "other", but not for "SDH".
I agree that SDH should not be listed in "other features", though. I love when people don't bother to read the entire post. Well, I'm pretty sure I read everything, but go on, roll your eyes as much as you want.. Quoting Unicus69: Quote: Since you ignored it, I will repeat what I said... Great. Quoting Unicus69: Quote: SDH stands for 'Subtitles for the deaf and hard-of-hearing'. Since they are subtitles, as indicated by the name, they should be listed in the subtitle field. These are SUBTITLES, not 'other features'. Well, I totally agree with this, and I do not like widescreenforever's solution at all. However, you said there was a checkbox for "SDH", which there isn't. There's a checkbox for many different languages. There's a checkbox for two different types of subtitles (commentary and trivia) and one for "other", which could mean other language or other type of subtitle track, but none for "SDH". Since you've made it clear that I didn't read your post, I can only assume that by Quote: SDH is already indicated with a check-box you mean that there's no need to indicate that a certain subtitle language is an SDH track, checking the box for its language is enough. If so, then I misunderstood you. I thought you meant that there actually was a separate checkbox for "SDH", just like there is for "commentary" and "trivia". Anyway - this thread illustrates that DVD Profiler's way of registering subtitles simply isn't good enough. I know there's a feature request for this, so I won't go into detail here on what I think is the best permanent solution. |

I don't know about your copy of Thee Sting, But mine has English(for English SDH), French and Spanish all checked already. CC is not checked in features. This is the way that I have been doing it, since it was pointed out to me that SDH is a subtitle and not CC. I put in a feature request a while back, to give us the option of a box, indicating whether sdh is present for the particular language check in subtitles. We will see.... A better otion may be to have a drop down, like for languages with a box for sdh alongside. Although, with BR discs, how many subtitles would be allowed> | | | Last edited: by CharlieM |

| Posted: | | | | As fully explained elsewhere, SDH is a menu selectable issue, CC is totally and completely external of the disc.

Exactly they contain more information so there should be a way of distinguishing them. The same as we distinguish an Audio Descriptive track from just a plain one. |

Jipp, a possibility would be an extra drop-down after the language. In that way we could also enter that the trivia-subtitle is polish, the commentary german and the SDH english. That would of course need a little revamping of the whole subtitle-section, as one language could be present multiple times. cya, Mithi | | | Mithi's little XSLT tinkering - the power of XML --- DVD-Profiler Mini-Wiki |

cya, Mithi How about similar implentation as audio tracks at moment. First drop-down "language" and second with options "empty"=normal, sdh and commentary? |

It could still be done via tick-boxes, just each language needs three "columns": normal ( as we currently use), SDH, and commentary. Would save the extra hassle of navigating drop-down boxes, etc. LANGUAGE SUBTITLES SDH COMMENTARYDUTCH X ENGLISH X X X FRENCH X X etc. Audio needs drop-down lists, due to the number of options for type, format, channels, etc. | | | You can download higher resolution versions of any of my cover scans from here |

| Posted: | | | | Why do we feel the need to add info if there is no place to put it. Why not wait until there is a correct place for things and not just place things where we think they belong. |

LANGUAGE SUBTITLES SDH COMMENTARY DUTCH X ENGLISH X X X FRENCH X X
etc.
Audio needs drop-down lists, due to the number of options for type, format, channels, etc. Exactly, if wanted, it could be implemented in a number of ways. Choice is up to Invelos. Reading some of the earlier posts: CC is encoded in the analog NTSC signal, perfect for over-the-air transmission and VHS and it follows the language of the country (locality). SDH is a subtitle data stream enriched for the audio challenged. It still is text. Any subtitle stream can be that way, depending on the efforts of the media company. Some of you seem to assume it is only tied to the audio stream of the original language of the movie, but that is a false assumption. | | | Eric

| Posted: | | | | I would just like to add that I too would like a checkbox for SDH. I find that two line subtitles are ok regardless of if they are SDH or not, but I do not really like the three line version added in the middle of the screen (to point out who is speaking). I have seen this on Universal's Coraline and Love Actually BD releases. |

| Posted: | | | | resurrecting this old post as I am faced with the unresolved option of SDH . For certain titles ( i.e. example shown Meet The Parents) .., The disc is not ( as Universal Home Video would have it) encoded with CC , yet it does have SDH for English . yet the new 3.6 version only has subtitles and all its languages for subtitles yet does not have SDH for English. My Powerdvd 7 shows primary and secondary for the subtitles . I know by the font used in the subtitles that CC is usually a big blocky white lettering , this text is more smooth and smaller sized and uniformed the same for primary and secondary . So what is the new verdict we can take with with this SDH ?? CC or Not .. and if not should there be a checkbox somewhere for SDH?? | | | In the 60's, People took Acid to make the world Weird. | Posted: | | | | CC? Not. It's a subtitle.
CC is a specific thing and PowerDVD will tell you if it is there (or not). If it is not we can't fill the round hole with this square peg. | | | Bad movie? You're soaking in it! |

| Posted: | | | | Understand.. But why couldn't SDH be used for Spanish and French as well,, as it appears to be only for English .. and the reason? SDH reveals door slamming, chuckling, phone ringing, giggling etc etc ..
So The English subtitles (SDH) then give revelations to non-speaking sounds.. French and Spanish in this case don't .. So .. Should there be an area for this to be revealed for our Hearing impaired friends who would Like this catalogued along with all the other special interests and needs and areas of viewing and listening enjoyment that Profiler already gives us all?? apparently not.. | | | In the 60's, People took Acid to make the world Weird. | Posted: | | | | IMO, it's English subtitle, not CC. When I put this disc into PowerDVD, the CC option isn't grayed out, yet when I put the check mark next to CC - Normal Display, no captioning appears, so there you go. And yes, I wish there were an English SDH check box option. | | | My one wish for the DVD Profiler online database: Ban or remove the disc-level profiles of TV season sets. It completely screws up/inflates the CLT. FACT: Imdb is WRONG 70% of the time! Misspelled cast, incomplete cast, wrong cast/crew roles. So for those who want DVD Profiler to be "as perfect as Imdb", good luck with that. Stop adding UNIT crew! They're invalid credits. Stop it! |
