| Posted: | | | | Tried the Alt+MJIJ but all it did was move me to the disc screen when I pressed the I. I don't have a number lock...I have a laptop and it doesn't seem to have that...usually it's with the del key and such on a normal keyboard, but doesn't seem to be on this one. I also tried the fn + MJIJ just in case (to be honest, I can't see what's typed on my keys, because I inherited this laptop from my dad who was very visually impaired so had large stickers with the letters on it placed on the keyboard which cover the top of the keys. Yes, I could probably take them off, but would leave a fairly sticky mess.)
I did just try copying and pasting from here, and it did actually work! But honestly? I'm not going to come here to hunt through messages to find one with an em-dash for me to copy every time. Would love to figure out how to do this in the program without the problems... | | | Lori |

| Posted: | | | | It would be nice to have quick buttons in the overview editing window for inserting some of the special characters like we have for bold and italics. | | | First registered: February 15, 2002 |

| Posted: | | | | Very nice idea -we could have a few set up for regular symbols, like the Trademark logo, Registered mark, copyright symbol, the em & en-dashes, the footnote dagger symbol and so on.
@LJG, sorry to hear your keyboard doesn't have Num Lock - mine's on the top row - it goes, Esc, F1-12, then Num Lock, Insert, Delete and finally Pause/Break. If the copying and pasting works - how about as a workaround you copy and paste all the common special characters into a Notepad text document? Not ideal, but at least you'll always know where it is and don't have to go hunting through the forums for this topic. |

| Posted: | | | | It's a thought...everything else works from character map, just not the em-dash, though. I have tried from Microsoft Works and didn't have much luck there, maybe notepad would be different. My keyboard goes: Esc, f1-12, scroll, pause, insert, delete. Under delete, it's home pg up and down. So, missing the num lock key. for the idea of having buttons built in! We wouldn't really need too many, northbloke covered most of them, I think...I know that I would def use them when doing overviews...a lot easier than having extra programs open...I'd add in the è ó ones, too...those are fairly well used as well. | | | Lori |

On my IBM and Dell laptops, the numlock is Shift+Scroll-lock. I can check the Toshibas at work tomorrow, but there doesn't seem to be a consistent standard for this option, though AFAIK it's always present somewhere - sometimes a shift+something, or Fn+something. Do you see any of the regular keys having superscript/subscript/colored indicators of the number option? e.g. my JKL; also doubles as 123- w/numlock on, and is marked as such on the keys. As a last resort, if you really need/want a proper 9key, there are outboard keypads for just that section (but a full external keyboard is probably cheaper... ) | | | Last edited: by Cyclograph |

| Posted: | | | | Cyclograph! Found my num lock...While I had closely looked at the f1-f12 keys, and had looked at the others, I guess I didn't look close enough. Found it on the scroll key as the fn part. It works when I push my fn key, plus the scroll key (turns on num lock). Then use Alt + MJIJ and I get the em-dash...a fairly long work around, but at least I can do it now. I have seen the usb port attached keypad, but as this is the only thing I really would want/need it for, wouldn't have bought it just for that. Tempting, but not practical. | | | Lori |

| Posted: | | | | Good to see you've got it sorted out also.
I like the suggestion of adding the special characters to the overview editing box like the bold and italics. Maybe one of us should submit that in the feature request area if it hasn't been mentioned already. |
