That's a bit harsh... and I say that as someone who does occasionally use it! Yes I exist! I agree it could be improved though and that the constraints should be easier to implement rather than having to go through quite a palava (sp?) to get them to 'kick in'. I also accept it does make some quite odd choices (and I'd love to see how it works out if one DVD's overview is similar to anothers). I do admit, though, I've used it a lot less since the software introduced better filtering (in older versions it was not possible to filter on runtime, for example, but you could in Movie Pick) but I still do use it to give me a few ideas and remind me about discs that may have dropped off my "to be watched" radar as I have so many... about 700 I've never watched on DVD (though may have seen at the cinema or on TV) which includes 450 I've NEVER seen (200 movies, 200 TV series and various documentaries) - pure blind buys waiting for my time! | | | It is dangerous to be right in matters where established men are wrong | | | Last edited: by Voltaire53 |

| Posted: | | | | I don't use Movie Pick personally, but I've seen enough forum questions about it to indicate that there are people who DO use it. I don't think it should be removed for that reason. The people who do use it are the ones who should weigh in on improving it. | | | Another Ken (not Ken Cole) Badges? We ain't got no badges. We don't need no badges. I don't see why you'd remove it from the program. It could be improved though, by combining it with filters so you could just get suggestions for a particular genre or genres. | | | "This movie has warped my fragile little mind." | | | Last edited: by gardibolt |

Exactly,, and it should be easy to do with filters as Profiler is 'rife' with filters. Maybe Movie Pick can be improved on and not removed if this 'side' program was 'updated' in a future version of Invelos..? | | | In the 60's, People took Acid to make the world Weird. Try 5 or 6 times and it was always a XXX movie, after that I've decided that I can decide myself what I want to watch... Did you try and give a negative rating to those selections? The Movie Pick feature works somehow interactively. If you don't like a pick, you can give a negative rating, and Movie Pick should find something different in your collection. Well, it "should". Instead, if you do like the shown DVD (but want Movie Pick to show some more DVDs like that) you can give a positive rating using the Rate Selection. According to the program Help, Movie Pick should get "closer and closer to the kind of DVD you're interested in. It compares genres, overviews, actors, directors, production years, ratings, and tags to find matches." You also can adjust the options so that Movie Pick considers more a certain attribute (Genre, Actors, Year, Last Watched, etc.), or on the contrary give less importance to it. | | | -- Enry |

| Posted: | | | | No I haven't change anything. Its just that I've found that funny at the moment that it only sugest me those genre of movie choice after choice. Just like if I've only X rated movie in my collection (maybe 35 on more than 1000 movies) |

Maybe Movie Pick can be improved on and not removed if this 'side' program was 'updated' in a future version of Invelos..? Hi Widescreen, I have to say, I quite like Movie Pick. It did take a few gos to figure out how to get the most out of it, but I use it fairly often. There are a few things I would like to change, but I can make good use of the feature as it is. First off, I have 519 DVDs. I realize many of the regular posters have considerably more than that, but with that number, I often find myself wasting time picking through my collection wondering what to watch. I have 3 young children (4th on the way :-) and therefore have a very limited window during which I can watch a DVD. Unfortunately, most of my watching is based on length. I figure out how much time I have left after getting the kids to bed and still be able to get 7 hours sleep, and that determines the max length of the movie. So I always set that option. Then I have Genre set to max as that is the best indicator of what I feel like that night. Then I start rating... Let's say I feel like watching a Martial Arts movie with a max length of 1hr45 mins. I hit F11, set the film length max. It comes up with Wayne's World. I rate that 1 out of 10, and it comes up with Kung Fu Panda. Closer, so I rate that 5, and then it comes up with Brother Bear. Wrong direction so I rate that a 1. Then it comes up with Enter the Dragon. Perfect. It gets selected. All the next 4 DVDs are Martial Arts movies less than 1hr45 mins. Exactly what I asked for, and it took less than a minute. Things I would change : 1). Allow an option to set the Genre it should search for at the outset. Maybe there is a way to do this already? If there is, I haven't found it. 2. Remember the last Max Length selected. For me at least, it is rare I can watch a DVD over 2 hours unless it is a Friday night. I generally set it every time to 1hr45 max. Personally, I haven't made much use of Last Watched, but have recently started recording that info so that I can turn on that filter eventually. Right now, it would only filter out a handful of movies, but eventually it will be helpful in coming up with flicks I haven't seen in ages. R. |

This is already possible, Movie Pick only suggests titles that are currently filtered in the collection window. |
