But the examples given by Ken in the rules inclode both a real firstname and a nickname, not just only a nickname. And stage names like Madonna are to be parsed into the first name field.

Agreed, which is why I also agreed with Hal.  In this case, the credited name doesn't 'include' a nickname, the nickname is the credited name.

But even though Al is part of his stagename, it is also his first name So wouldn't the correct parsing be "Weird" Al // Yankovich?

Depends on the credit...we only include the qoutes if they are included in the credits.

what about Al / "Weird Al" / Yankovich ?
IMO there should be no difference to other accepted cases like:

Dwayne / "The Rock" / Johnson

If that is the "most commonly credited" form of his name, then that would be correct.

Remember that "Common Name" has absolutely nothing to do with "real" name.

Maybe there shouldn't be, but there is a difference.  We don't invent data.  If the credit reads 'Wierd Al Yankovich', then we enter it as 'Wierd Al/ /Yankovich.  The only way to enter 'Wierd Al Yankovich' as 'Al/"Wierd Al"/Yankovich' is if the credit reads 'Al "Wierd Al" Yankovich'.  If he isn't credited that way, then we can't enter it that way.

'The Rock' is entered that way because that is how he was credited.

Just to be perfectly clear, the "Credited As" field does not use parsing.  If he was credited as 'Al "Weird Al" Yankovic' in the credits, you would simply enter it that way in the "Credited As" field.

You would have to determine, using the CLT, what you should use in the "Name" field which does require parsing.

Currently, the CLT yields:

Al//Yankovic - 9 titles, 12 profiles
Weird Al//Yankovic - 15 titles, 15 profiles
"Weird Al"//Yankovic - 37 titles, 72 profiles
Al/"Weird Al"/Yankovic - 0 titles, 0 profiles
