I'm so sorry to hear about having your home violated. I wish my dogs had been there to bite them on the arse! Hopefully your insurance will cover everything and, like others have said, enjoy buying everything new!

I can tell you if you say had 1000 DVDs they will get suspicious either way. I had a brand new printout and they did not care...

Repeating what others have stated before with a little tweak every month I burn all my catalogs of DVD's/Books?CD's/household items/etc. along with pictures as others have mentioned and burn all to a DVD which I than store in my safe deposit box.

A cheaper option is to buy a shotgun and a wire, and connect the wire to the trigger. May clash with the interior design though.

Even this wouldn't work,, as I have heard in some countries if you take matters into your own hands the thief can sue you...  ! 

I hate Allstate.., Years ago,, our Washing machine malfunctioned, (when we were out,)  as it was filling up and overflowed water onto our floors.. warping the floors after when the water had receded and dried . Allstate gave us a small cheque and then immediately cancelled our home insurance as we were deemed a risk ..
