I have another player, which I tested the problem areas, and they seemed ok. It is a panasonic-DVD-827 model. I haven't had the opportunity to watch the entire movie through though. I think this is more a combatibility problem with the DVD and the DVR player. I am hoping that either A)Pioneer will get back to my email (their site claims that they get back within a reasonable amount of time) or B) someone else on the internet has the same DVR player as me and can say yes or no that they've experienced the same problems.

I watch 95% of my movies on the DVR, so it's preferable to have that one work. I do have a much older DVD player that is not hooked up, I may hook that up tonight or tomorrow to the same TV as my DVR, seems silly to hook up one DVD player just to play one movie. Alas, that may be my only solution.

Thanks so much for all your help pauls42, it's greatly appreciated.

At least you have a solution, even though not a great one.

Well i hooked up my 7 year old panasonic, and it appears to play the movie fine (at least through the known trouble spots)

Pioneer got back to me today, and said that they had not heard of any problems with the DVD and my model. So basically a shrug from them..

Oh well, I'll be watching it on my Panasonic then. It's too bad, but hey, whatcha gonna do.

Thanks again to everyone for their input, especially pauls42.

Just a little more info on my IRON MAN DVD problems...

I hooked up my old Panasonic to my tv in the basement where I watch most of my DVDs. We watched the movie last night, the good: We were able to watch it all the way through without it crashing once. The bad: at several spots the image became a digital mess. With pixelation occurring.

I finally got an email response from Paramount Home Entertainment. They apologized for the disc, and said that they would send me a new disc. I gave them my address, the barcode, and the location of where I purchased it. It should come in 2-4 weeks.

So Kudos to Paramount for sending a new disc without even questioning my disc, or requiring me to send it back. I wonder if they've gotten a few of these bad ones reported. What I'm worried is that I haven't gotten a bad disc, but all the discs are like this. In which case a new Disc will do nothing but give me the same problems.

Hi G8,

As an aside, are we talking R1 or R2 DVDs here.... I'm guessing R1 (cuz of the reference to a basement........).

I'm interested because Daughter #2 has told me that she absolutely "must have"  the Iron Man DVD........and guess who is expected to pay for it  .........so I'd like to watch out for problems

Cheers

Hi Steve,

Ta for that info.......I'm relieved

...you can imagine the grief that would abound in Mole Towers if "Dad" had  bought a duff disc for the little darlings!

Cheers

That's OK.

Two flavours expected on that date, single and double editions, if it's any help, some details in the online already, do a search by title.

Yes, it is a Region 1 dvd. However I wouldn't worry too much. It appears that I am in the minority. One person told me they had problems with it on a Sony DVD, but other then that person and myself. I haven't found anyone else with problems. Hopefully the new disc they are sending me (supposedly) will work better. Keeping the fingers crossed.
