Rounded stay rounded
Squared stay squared .
Cartmin There is no rule...as has already been stated. Folks, like me, do it purely for esthetics...no more, no less. accuracy?...please. If 100% accuracy was a requirement then we'd have to scan the entire keepcase because, isn't that what we actually see on the retailer's shelf? | | | My WebGenDVD online Collection |

| Posted: | | | | I used to leave rounded corners rounded, but nowadays I'll fill them in as long as it's feasible. I still see the virtues of both ways, though, so it's not really worth submitting images that only have corners filled in. | | | Last edited: by Nadja |

| Posted: | | | | If all the rest of the data supplied cast, crew, audio etc has to come from the DVD and or case then so should the cover scans, whatever the original cover format is in then that should be the way it is scanned and presented.
Original has rounded corners = submitted scan has rounded corners Original scan has square corners = submitted scan has square corners.
then that leaves the arguement as to which came first rounded or square?

| Posted: | | | | It's only a personal preference thing, and I like to fill in the corners. Most DVD cases are black, so it's less noticeable, but scanners will put white through on corners, which sticks out quite distractingly when viewing cover images on DVD Profiler. White corners look really odd when using the gallery feature, thumbnailed list views and on printed reports where many covers are displayed together. | | | Last edited: by Doombear |

You called that riight, Doombear and based on what I see in the database MOST users seem to prefer squared corners. Why? Pure esthetics and Hollywood frankly does not do a very good job on their rounded coreners. Skip | | | ASSUME NOTHING!!!!!! CBE, MBE, MoA and proud of it. Outta here

| Posted: | | | | I guess I'm not a "professional" scanner, because I never get a perfectly rounded corners with my scans. I find it hard enough to keep the covers oriented properly on the scanner glass and often find myself rotating the images in PhotoShop so that they aren't skewed one way or the other. So rounded corners may be the least of my problems. Square corners look cleaner to me. I think the only reason the corners are rounded in the first place is to make them go into the sleeve more efficiently.
My rule of thumb for contributing covers is: If there's no covers online, I'll contribute mine. If the online cover is wrong (re-release, wrong UPC, etc.) I'll contribute mine. Since I prefer covers that look good to me than those which most closely match the original cover, I don't want to try to foist my opinion onto the online database. This probably doesn't matter much, anyway, since by the time I would get around to scanning my covers, someone has already contributed good ones. | | | Another Ken (not Ken Cole) Badges? | Posted: | | | | I personally prefer squared corners and if I'm making a cover update, I'll square off any rounded covers. The clone brush is perfect for this task.
The main reason why I stated "Does it really matter" above was because the conversation looked like it was actually starting to get a little heated. |

I've never had one comment go "why did you square the corners?" or "why didn't you leave the corners rounded?" Never. | | | Corey | | | Last edited: by Katatonia |

| Posted: | | | | My 2 cents is simple, it does not matter one way or the other as long as it is a good and proper scan. Rory | | | DVD Profiler for iOS as of 3/5/2013 DVD Profiler for Android as of 5/17/2013 |
