Hmmm , Ok  Skip,  but i was only asking if you thought a plug-in could handle such a task. From your  post i gather you feel it probally could. By the way i just clicked on your signature and i remember reading that in the past but couldn't remember where i had read it. I completely agree with your feelings on the subject. It's almost funny how friends take offense when you tell them you don't lend out your movies. One guy kept offering me $5 a month to do what NetFlix was doing for him for $10 per month as if i was destitute.

LOL, it is amazing how many users set themselves up as neighborhood blockbusters...not this little black duck.(Thank you, Daffy). My library represents at SRP an investment of over $70,000 and I should expose that asset to the vagaries of my friends at any price...I think not. Sounds like a variant on the old neighborhood tales we had when I was growing up, about the neighbor that borrowed stuff and never returned any of it....No thanks.

When i said " I've tried removing the number when adding the box set " that is what I was trying to say. I put a tick in check box " NONE " to the right of where the collection number would go. When i did that i still saw my total dvds go up 1 more than what it should have.

The nightmare on Elm Street is 1490 my higest numbered profile and i added one double feature dvd and even tried to assign each title a same collection number and removing the collection number for the parent and my Total DVDs still went from 1490 to 1493

removing the collection number from the dvd-box by checking the NONE box is the correct way to go.
Everytime you do this your total DVd's is decreased by one.

so you're left with a number for each 'profile and disc', the only thing to check if you have profiles assigned to b-sides or bonus discs and eventualy  selecting there none also.

I feel this thread has already ran it's course but just to correct you on one thing.

Removing the collection number from the box set by checking the NONE box may be the correct way to go but the Total DVD's ( Total Profilies ) is not reduced by one but the collection number is. I have tried this several times and i am dead certain this is correct. I am no longer interested in the Total DVDs now that i understand it has little to do with the DVD count and everything to do with the Profilies in the collection so it's best to just ignore this and use the methods described in previous posts to get the actuall DVD totals. Thanks for the post just the same.

:

Yes - because the number of profiles isn't changing. Only the maximum number of profiles which will be given a collection number.

And remember to automatically renumber all your profiles after you have marked some as not having a collection number

I canl never automatically renumber all my profiles as it would take about 3 months to  do it. I have permanent stickers affixed to each title matching my current collection numbers. So i am giving all the children in the set all the same number this way i get the same result. I am curious how you and others that have over a 1,000 titles locate a movie in your collection. It used to take me 30 -40 minutes to find one when i was at 1,000 and sometimes i would overlook the title and have to start over. Glad the software has collection numbers that are profile specific.

you could use the location field for your permanent number stickers.
In the collection list window, right click on the title
in the pop-up window select View Columns
select disc location, this would show the disc location in your list window.
you can edit the disc location by:
selecting a title, pressing [ctrl][p] or right click on the title and select Personalize in the pop-up window.
bottom left, next to disc, you have 2 fields, location and slot. If you have no other use for those. These are more protected, if you ever accidental renumber your collection

That's up to, Ken. He knows about it, whether or when he might do anything about it is up to him, all we can do is wait.

I understand Plug-ins are software modules that add to the functionality of an application. Just wondering if a Plug-in could handle adding an option to omit a profile from the Totals. I don't really care about the "Total DVDs" description now that i understand what it actually is.

If you're talking about a plugin that would tell you how many DVDs you have (i.e. physical discs), then yes, such a plugin could be created.  In fact, I've created just such a plugin and was testing that very feature last night.  Look for it in the next week or two (unless Ken releases 3.5 before I can get my plugin released).

You...you put...you put stickers on your DVD covers?

I...I can't even imagine such a thing.

Yes ths stickers are on the dvd covers. An empty DVD case costs approx 0.15 each , the sticker is on the case if i ever wanted to take them off i could either heat the stick with a hair dryer or replace the case. How do your locate you movies, using DVD Profilier i can get the collection number and inside 15 seconds i have the dvd in my hand ready to watch it. If anyone ever tries to steal a movie i'll know it. I had a guest steal approx 20 titles over several vists and some tools too. He'll never be allowed in my home again.
