OPEN CREDITS.

Please not! I want a "director" entry no matter whether the actual credit is director, directed by, un film de, mis en scène, Regie, Regisseur etc.

Maybe Ken could expand the "linking system" to cover this!!!!

@Hal:

I agree and there is a way to do it. I think I have solved the puzzle.

@Rho:

I appreciate what you WANT. But you have to expand your horizons. I am not interested in Sound, particularly, but some users ARE and I have no right to say them nay. You similarly have no right to try and force your wishes on anybody else. If users want Set Decoration and we can figure out how to handle it then we should. Do I want to see full open credits<gasp>...hardly, but by the same token perhaps there is a user out there somewhere for whom the Accountants data is important and relevant or the Caterers or whomever.<fingers crossed>

Now relative to your comments about "foreign" language credits (foreign to whom?) I will admit that I have mixed feelings about that.

As someone who wants to add all the animal/insect wranglers and caterers (and here's hoping they don't cross over) i've wondered about the Open credits i've seen mentioned.

How Open is Open?
How are spelling errors in credits avoided?
Would we keep the subcategories (Art, Music, Sound, etc.) in order to keep them organized?

and most importantly:

I'd want some way to filter the credits to only show me the ones i care about.
Bad movie?  You're soaking in it!

Spelling Errors? Tweeter

Just like with cast type what you see.

How Open is Open? Interesting question. In theory, Open would mean list the crew data as you see it, and those that want caterers can add them.

In actuality, it is a bit more complex than taht, Iam toying with my solution to be sure it works as intended. It would NOT be totally open credits, however. It would be a cousin of what we have now, I have one concern that i am still noodling and that is. Some jobs could be in multiple areas. For example are Visual Effects their own area or are they a subset of Special Effects, or vice versa. Perhaps they are both part of the Art department for our purposes.<shrugs>

IMHO, it should retain the current categories (for organization as you say) with the addition of a couple others for the main database, and then allow users to add whatever they want locally.  Checkboxes to display only what you want to see would be a great option.

Sounds like you have just taken the online out of the equation, hal and turned it into a strictly local option. Bad move. Suppose Ken has an interest in...Costume Design, as we know that other users do as well. If it's a local option they cannot easily share data. Sounds a bit silly me to me, one of our strengths is the Online database, now perhaps there should be an option for you to accept ONLY the crew data in which YOU have an interest, that sounds more logical.

No, Hal's only taking about displaying only the information you're interested in. All the information not on display would still be part of the profile and be available online.

That's not what I said at all.  I said for the main database retain the existing categories, e.g. Director, Production, Music, etc, and add a couple new ones, e.g., Makeup, Costumes.

For people who want more than that, give them the ability to do it locally.  That way they can enter the grips if that's what they want, but they would not be contributable to the Invleos main database.

For all fields (those for the main database and those only local), the ability to select which ones you want to display in the program and/or in your on-line collection would be a great feature.

Hopefully that's a little clearer.

I would like to include the 'joke' credits that are in the credits of the Naked Gun Movies

but thats only because they are funny and would like to be able to go back and read them for a laugh  something like that would only be able to be entered in an Open Credit situation (one such credit was the director, or some other crew members, Divorce Attorney)

hmmm, just had a thought while typing this, maybe I'll add these to my notes field so I have them....

While the Collectorz' Movie Collector program is inferior to Profiler in a great many ways, one thing I like about all of the programs in Collectorz' group of programs is user-defined fields -- which can be either single value or multiple value (drop down) types.  If some user-defined fields were included in Profiler it might be a way to meet some of the less popular things people have requested.

I thought the poll results were clear... However, I've just noticed three no-votes against me trying to remove an "additional music" credit saying:

"He added music to the score, he is mentioned in the credits. Leave him in the list. Where do you draw the line? more than 5 minutes music? Maybe 10?"

"He contributed music to the original score, so he is a composer too."

"if he added music, leave him in the list"

I'm not sure what to do... Should I really start adding "composer" credits for every "additional music" credit that I see (believe me: there are more of them than you think), or am I correct in removing it?

In your position I would leave the contribution the way it is (removing the credit) and accept if it will be denied in this special case. But I would not use it as prejudice for any other profile.

Well, "lucky" for you "the protector of the DB" is helping you out with a Yes-vote on your contribution of a release which I'm sure he does not own.

We don't do ADDITIONAL anything, the poll results agree with that answer, Tim. Some of us apparently believe that if they are not watched they can do as they please. BTW, Martin, while I may not have that copy, I have TWO copies of the film and I am with the familiar credits.

Put it the other way, if i'm allowed to profile all the LOTR profiles. Why should you not vote on contributions that concern the credits that influence the Credit Lookup Tool?
Sources for one or more of the changes and/or additions were not submitted. Please include the sources for your changes in the contribution notes, especially for cast and crew additions.
