| Posted: | | | | I agree that it sounds stupid to contribute overviews with bad spelling, etc., but no one can technically argue with a verbatim transcription (how's them 10cent words) of the box cover. Maybe it's wrong, but if the error is on the box everyone can see it. The danger in correcting "typos" is the chance of heading down a slippery slope. Today it's correcting spelling. Maybe tomorrow it'd be correcting grammar. Maybe next week it'd be changing word selection.
Using the cover as printed is objective. "Fixing" the errors in a cover is frequently subjective. Some people might, for example, want to change the spelling "color" to "colour" (or vice versa) based on where the live or what they were taught. While everyone would probably agree that if it were misspelled colro it would be wrong, but which should it be corrected to: color or colour? | | | Another Ken (not Ken Cole) Badges? What do the Rules tell you to do, Atle. Do they say ANYTHING about fixing typos? The answer is no, they do not. Type exactly what you see PERIOD if you wish to Contribute, User typos can be corrected, but not typos generated within the actual overview itself.

My point exactly. And that is what I do, and will do in the future. Had a thought about making a note about what spelling errors are present and submit a "clean" overview under the "Notes" tab, but am not sure if that`ll come up in the contributed profile or even if it`s allowed? Thanks for the feedback. Atle |

| Posted: | | | | I have also (sometimes), when typing the overview into my local database, automatically corrected spelling mistakes without being aware of it. (I hate reading anything with wrong spelling or bad sentences, like a teacher I look for my red pen.) I read the cover, type it in and disregard the spelling errors, just because now the sentence is in my head, and I don`t actively look for type-o`s to enter . If I some time later notice the type-o on the cover, I normally don`t rush to the entry in Profiler just to duplicate a mistake? But will enter the ones I spot. And if you guys see any spelling errors in my entries on this thread, please bear in mind english is my second language, ok? |

I'm sorry...but that has to be one of the poorest excuses for not contributing that I have heard yet. You do realize that you can contribute the proper overview text exactly as it appears on the DVD cover then once submitted you can change it to whatever you want and lock it? | | | My WebGenDVD online Collection |

Unfortunately, or maybe fortunately, someone from the county alerted them to it and just before school started for the first time there, they took the sign down and had it remade, so unfortunately it is correct now. On the other hand, the Walmart where we used to live used to have a lane with "YEILD" painted on it. It was like that for probably 5 years or so. -Gerri | | | Invelos Software, Inc. Representative |

If words are highlighted in italic or bold on the case, then identify them with ‘single quotation’ marks. Exception: If the entire overview uses an uppercase font, enter the overview using standard capitalization rules.
Never include the following items in overviews:
* Taglines * Reviews (unless they are incorporated into the text of the overview on the case) * Extra features * Hyperlinks or other HTML
For multi-language cases, use only the language of the DVDs locality.
When there is no overview on the case, add a simple, self-written overview of 1-2 paragraphs. Do not include spoilers and always match the overview language to the profile's locality.
For Concert / Music Videos you may include a listing of Song titles and length, if available."

Skip Except if the movie in question happens to be Godzilla, which the entire overview is a review. NOTE: Bold by me. Sorry Skip... I couldn't resist. | | | Peter

| Posted: | | | | Let me expand upon my last post a bit. Let's suppose, and it CAN happen, that some form of major error is discovered in a title. For the sake of this discussion we will put the blunder in the Overview. The distributor discovers the mistake and manages to prevent most of the release entering the market. But 100 copies managed to hit the streets and get sold. This error has now made this release WITH the error worth $1000.
I am willing to bet that under such a scenario, even surfeur would want that error to be captured. Look at Scott's Stamp catalog sometime. It is a database and it is filled with ERRORS that have been released to the stamp collecting world PLUS the information on a "corrected" stamp. Some of these errors are worth millions of dollars...why would you insist only picturing the "correct" stamp and NOT the eroor, which is basically the premise behind this argument. No matter the collection, baseball cards, coins, record albums, whatever, errors do occur and get capture for this precise reason. We are no different.

The purpose of the Overview text field is to give an overview (summary, synopsis) of the movie/TV series/whatever the DVD actually contains. That's why we add an episode list to the Overview field even if the cover doesn't contain one. That's why we add a self-written overview if the cover has no overview at all. That's why the Overview is displayed if you use the Movie Pick feature. | | | Matthias | | | Last edited: by goodguy |

Based on your comment I don't think you have done much collecting. The description of the error in this case the Overview is as important as the image.

How very not surprising. Quote: The description of the error in this case the Overview is as important as the image. | Posted: | | | | Not worth it. You invalidated NOTHING. You think far higher of your own argument abilities than actually exist. I will offer you a word of advice, change your Avatar, it is insulting and argumentative all on its own, and draws a negative response from more users than you may be aware of including me.To put it simply, speaking formyself, Mathias, as far as I am concerned your avatar alone invalidates any argument you put forth. It presents a self-image of yourself as a lecturing, know-it-all. Skip | | | ASSUME NOTHING!!!!!! CBE, MBE, MoA and proud of it. Outta here

Skip If you kept your eyes from rolling, you might have recognized the avatar as a character from "Reefer Madness: The Movie Muscial" offering a tea stick. Hence the tag line. Nice self-destruction, btw. | | | Matthias |
