I have a tip for you (although you might have figured it out yourself): Look for an error or missing data in those associated profiles, correct or add that and contribute them. This way users who did not know about the image updates will be informed once the profile changes are accepted.

Mmm, I understand why you would want to do this but I do not think this is such a good idea. Besides I also think the screeners will not approve this kind of behaviour. In the event you can not find erroneous data, I think it's better to look for missing data like common and/or credited as names, features or easter eggs, as those are generally neglected.

Yes, there is only the cover as contribution. The cover get's approved, the contribution gets declined.

It did not happen in the past. For instance, on Jan 31 I submitted a cover image for E.T. (Italian release), no other changes, and I got both Image and "Profile" approved:

I've been trying that all along Martin, but the problem is that many of the profiles are pretty much fully audited. I guess I'll just have to look harder to find some errors...

Meanwhile, here's a few more where the images were approved but the profiles declined. I may as well list them here for anyone interested:
