| Posted: | | | | I've never understood the concern over whether or not somebody has seen a 'classic'. Just because a particular film is seen as a classic by people, doesn't mean it has to appeal or be enjoyed by everybody. I think it's called personal taste. | | | IVS Registered: January 2, 2002 |

I agree. And also, what is a so-called classic coming from Hollywood may not be as highly regarded outside of the US. I wonder how many non-US classics have been seen by the average American audience Well to be fair non US films don't seem to feature for most people that have posted film titles in this thread so far | | | IVS Registered: January 2, 2002 |

| Posted: | | | | i'll admit it. the only bergman film i've seen is smiles of a summer night...because a little night music (the musical, not the horrendous movie adaptation) was based on it. i haven't seen most of kurosawa's films either...i have seen 1 or 2, but i can't remember the titles... as for u.s. (or remove the periods if you will... ) films: taxi driver rocky anything woody allen except annie hall and manhattan--which is why i stopped watching woody allen films...prophetic... and my mind just went blank...it happens more and more often... and by the bye...get out the really big rocks... i despise gone with the wind...barf-orama... krik | | | "Vampirism is still not a disease, Julia. | Posted: | | | | The genre "Classic" is all a matter of one's opinion. Some people think s classic film has be produced before the fifties, others sixties and so on. Like the man once said about music their only two the good and the bad. And it all depends on what you like.
I have a set of genres I prefer, but also a lot of people/list say film is good, I'll try it, I just might learn something. That is why I have such a varied collection. Sure I pick some duds in my opinion, but I just have to try and see what others see them.
Oh, I have most of the so called Classics on DVD and I have them on Laser and I'm old enough that I have seen many of them in the theaters. Sure jacking with computers for over 48 years, I like computer graphics, I like to see how the stunts were done, but in my opinion regardless of black/white or color or format, the story has come first, then character development and acting if a film is a classic. I also like something left to the imagination. I don't care for obligatory nude/sex scenes (as one director called them in the comments to on his film as to why one was there) in films. Sex to me is a participation sport not spectators sport. | | | We don't need stinkin' IMDB's errors, we make our own. Ineptocracy, You got to love it. | Posted: | | | | I'm just starting starting to delve into the "classics". I just watched Gone With The Wind over the holidays. I've recently bought Amadeus and Unforgiven. And I'm sure I've see some movies (Wizard of Oz and the Sound of Music) when I was younger and have forgotten them and/or killed those brain cells. I've seen Citizen Kane once, and really didn't like it. I much preferred Casablanca and On The Waterfront.
These days, I suffer from judging a movie by preview and reviews. There is no way I'm going to watch Titanic.
Some biggies I've never seen are Rocky (although I've seen bits and pieces here and there), It's a Wonderful Life, Schindler's List, and the Shawshank Redemption. Maybe I'll get there someday.
