Screen cap those fingernails! those would be great contribution notes. "you can see from this screen cap here that the finger prints left by Thing clearly match Ted Cassidy, while the finger prints seen in this screen cap are clearly different and belong to a different actor" -Agrare | | | Last edited: by Agrare |

He could conceivably be listed as (uncredited) with documentation...more than simply Wikipedia since for accuracy they are about as reliable as someone else we all know.

You say “is NOT credited as…”
Then please explain to me why folks are so intent on creating fictitious credits, and voting yes on them btw, with pseudonyms? The Coen Brothers were not credited as Film Editors in “The Big Lebowski”, “Fargo” or “O Brother, Where Art Thou?” in the film’s credits yet the profiles were changed. This change has essentially deleted Roderick Jaynes from the database. If, after accepting these profile updates, one tries to search for credits for Roderick Jaynes they will no longer get any hits…he’s gone because the search is done on the common name not the credited as name. The same goes for changing an Alan Smithee credit to the actual Director’s name. Try doing a search to see how many Alan Smithee credits are in the films in your collection after accepting a profile update like that…zero hits. Where’s the usability now? I guess it depends on how one defines useability. Since Roderick Jaynes is a completely fictitious name, what would be the point of searching on it? I suppose it would be the answer to a trivia question. On the other hand, knowing that that Coen's edited a film as well as directed would also be the answer to a trivia question. Useability is in the eye of the beholder.
I will say that by having both pieces of information in the database, real name and ficticious name, we are a program modification away from being able to search on either. Before, no amount of coding changes would let us know that the Coen brothers also edited their films AND employed a pseudonym.
Just my opinion and the reason why I would support these credited as changes. Oh...so the rules as regards to Crew Credits is invalid? There was an update posted somewhere that I'm oblivious to? Crew and Cast Take Crew Credits from the film credits only; list names exactly as they are in the credits. Exception: If the credit information is entirely capitalized, use standard capitalization rules instead. I don't see anywhere in this rule or anywhere in the rules for that matter that allow using 3rd party sources to support the altering of on-screen credits for "usability"? | | | My WebGenDVD online Collection |

| Posted: | | | | Ummmm....they were credited as Roderick Jaynes, just like in the credits. I presume your undies are in a knot because a second line was added because there are two brothers. I can't help how many brothers there are. I didn't submit the change but I didn't have a problem with it. It would appear that neither did the screeners. I don't know what to tell you.
I should also add that I was offering my personal opinion. That's doesn't make it the right opinion, just mine. | | | Last edited: by mdnitoil |

I don't see anywhere in this rule or anywhere in the rules for that matter that allow using 3rd party sources to support the altering of on-screen credits for "usability"? Nice bit of selective omission there, in your quoting of the rules, because the very next line after your quote says Use the "Credited As" field where the person's name differs from the credited name. | | | Chris |

Screen cap those fingernails! Those would be stand in or maybe stunt doubles of Ted Cassidy's hand. We do not credit them except if they are integrated into the cast credits. |

We do use common names so that the credits link together. The editor credits should link to the director credits if it is the same person. |

| Posted: | | | | All I am trying to demonstrate is that by altering the credits in this way, Roderick Jaynes (fictitious or not) is no longer searchable in the database. If Joe Blow user, after watching Fargo, wants to know what other films "Roderick Jaynes" may have edited, his search using the crew filter in DVD Profiler will result in zero hits...that's all I'm getting at. Sorry to have ruffled any feathers here. | | | My WebGenDVD online Collection |

Why does the program include a "credited as" option for crew, if the rules forbid using it? | | | Last edited: by wintermute115 |

But clicking on the name in the crew list will bring up a full list of everything the Coens have done, including listing where they're "credited as" Roderick Jaynes. Wouldn't that achieve the usability you're so intent on? |

Wouldn't that achieve the usability you're so intent on? No. I get what he's saying. If you use the crew filter, you will no longer find Roderick Jaynes in the database because it's simply an alias, not an actual crew member. BUT, no matter how you cut it, aliasing by definition will have these results in the cast/crew database if full linking were ever achieved. My point is that Ken could, if he wanted to, patch the code to make "credited as" searchable. He's already written such a thing for the credit lookup. Max's argument is an argument against ANY aliasing, something that just isn't going to fly moving foward. |

Wouldn't that achieve the usability you're so intent on? Did you not read what I wrote? Let's say that Joe Blow user is viewing the credits after watching the film "Fargo" for example, and sees the credit Roderick Jaynes as Film Editor. He really likes the job Roderick Jaynes did on "Fargo" so he starts DVD Profiler, goes to the crew filter and types in Roderick Jaynes. Guess what? No films credited to Roderick Jaynes. Hmmm. So now he has to first go directly to his profile for "Fargo" to see that Roderick Jaynes is actually the Coen Brothers. | | | My WebGenDVD online Collection |

Let me see if I understand this: In From Russia With Love, Anthony Dawson is credited as "?", and his entry in DVDPro says "Anthony Dawson [Credited as ?]". Joe Blow watches this movie and decides to see what other movies this enigmatic ? chap has been in. So he goes to the filter list, and tries to filter his movie list by "?" in cast. Shock horror, no movies come up. Therefore, you argue that Anthony Dawson should not be listed with an alias but simply as "?" to make the database more valuable. Is that correct? |
