| Posted: | | | | I guess it is a moot point at present as PCM tracks are as you say hard to find. I realize that ultimately it is subjective and that it is difficult if at all possible to replicate test conditions where you would end up with "apples to apples." I was just canvassing opinions. It's not a big deal for me. I'm sad to say I probably wouldn't know the differences without an audio expert there to point them out to me. Uncompressed vs. lossless - it would appear both would give you what you wish. The lossless formats having the extra benefit for the disc makers of more space for other features. To muddy the waters further, I also hear good reports on reviews of HD discs where for instance, "DD+ was great and what is the big deal with all these other formats. Talk about overkill." Looks like a subject still up in the air. Yes, I got the recent upgrade sir when I first hooked up the player as part of set-up. Lucky me I suppose. |

| Posted: | | | | I asked a guy at Circuit City about this as he was a self proclaimed audio guy. He insisted PCM was better because it was lossless and then proceeded to try to get me to buy a new receiver and speakers so that I could properly enjoy it (not happening as my system may not be the greatest but I got it last month as a bday present and it does what I want).
Honestly, I don't have the best vision or hearing and have to go with the article and use what sounds best to me. I am impressed with DD and DTS on my equipment. | | | Schultzy - http://www.michaelschultz.net grenactics - The art of skillfully fraggin one’s opponent with the use of grenades or other compact explosive devices that are thrown by hand or projected. |

| Posted: | | | | PCM is used on a lot of Music and Concert DVD's as previously mentioned. I was listening to one just the other day, and began with the Dolby 5.1 track which sounded all muddled. I switched it to the PCM track and the quality was flawless.
I even have several "movie" DVD's (Simitar) released way back in 1997/1998 that had PCM tracks. | | | Corey |

Well, that just proves that, for the most part, you shouldn't trust most sales people these days. Unless you're at a real high end store, the odds of finding someone who knows what they're talking about aren't good. When I go to Fry's, Best Buy, Circuit City, etc., I try to have all my questions answered before I arrive. Although I do sometimes like to ask them anyway just for my own amusment. | | | Get the CSVExport and Database Query plug-ins here. Create fake parent profiles to organize your collection. |

| Posted: | | | | I actually asked my question here and then asked them to see what they would say. But I do try to do all my research ahead of time.
BTW - looks like we shop at the same places. and you can't beat the prices on most HD DVDs and Blu-ray DVDs at Frys. | | | Schultzy - http://www.michaelschultz.net grenactics - The art of skillfully fraggin one’s opponent with the use of grenades or other compact explosive devices that are thrown by hand or projected. |

But to get there I have to pass multiple Targets, 3 different Best Buys, 1 Circuit City, and multiple other places where I tend to pick up movies. So even though it's not that far away, it's usually so hard to justify the drive. | | | Get the CSVExport and Database Query plug-ins here. Create fake parent profiles to organize your collection. |

| Posted: | | | | My Fry's is about 45 minutes away so I don't get to go very often, but when I do I always come out broke. | | | Schultzy - http://www.michaelschultz.net grenactics - The art of skillfully fraggin one’s opponent with the use of grenades or other compact explosive devices that are thrown by hand or projected. |
