Yes, but I think Skip was talking about one UPC for two different titles all together....

Tipi:

Locations would isolate one UPC from another, even though the UPC is the same. Steve, no I was referring to the identical One UPC/One title, with a variiety of differences, for example new cover Art, dropping of a dual video format down to a single format (WalMart favorite game) or 0other such differences. The ONLY title of which I am aware that has two listings for the same UPC (excluding Regions/Localities) is T2: UE.

The problem I beleive he is running into, is where complete seasons are sold as a set.  The entire set has a UPC, but the individually boxed seasons do not.  That means you have to make a choice.  Use the disc ID of the first disc, of each season, as the identifier for the season or for the individual disc.

For people that want a parent profile for the entire set, a child profile for each season and a grandchild profile for each disc, this is a problem.  I don't know what potential issues you see down the road, but this issue is a problem now.

It would be nice if there was a fix for this...other than manual profiles.

I think as more and more complete TV series are released, this is going to be a big problem.
Perhaps Ken could tie the UPC in with the release date somehow to allow the same UPC to exist as long as they have different release dates. This would also allow re-releases to be logged.

Personally, I would include ISBN (when available) and Distributors Catalog #, I suspect that coupling that data with UPC and Disc ID, we could pretty well isolate most DVD titles.

Unfortunately it wouldn't help much.

Example: german Babylon 5 super box.

The box itself has an UPC. Every season is packed seperately but the season box has no UPC. Thus I use the DiscId of the first disc of every season

This is the current situation

Box (Id: UPC)
+ Season 1 (Id: Season 1, Disc 1 DiscId)
++ Season 1, Disc 1 (Id: manual)
++ Season 1, Disc 2 (Id: , Season 1, Disc 2 DiscId)
++ Season 1, Disc 3 (Id: , Season 1, Disc 2 DiscId)
++ ...
+ Season 2 (Id: Season 2, Disc 1 DiscId)
+ ...

If I'd use the release date, nothing would change, because every item in that box would have the same release date.
