Good discussion, however we are moving away from the original idea and that was prevention rather than locking data or ignoring it when synching. I believe a user should not use locks at all or keep them to a minimum as they may forget, and if you ever submit a different change down the track you may inadvertently wipe out data you never synched.

Let’s keep it to the discussion of being notified when a profile is about to be changed. As this is what my ultimate goal is, rather than having it changed and already in the DB and having to re-submit to fix what could have been prevented, my beloved term 'Preventative Maintenance', less work for the future.
